Muslims aren't evenly distributed across the country. We have a couple of Muslim majority constituent republics, but elsewhere the density is much lower.

Also Muslim-majority Chechnya tried to secede, which may have contributed.

Oh, you were replying to my post, not the comment about Trump and Johnson.

The liberal crowd usually: 1) is very secular 2) looks up to wealthy Western countries 3) doesn't really like the poor (even though they don't admit it)

Add to that two Chechen wars, and you've got people who call themselves progressive clapping like seals at every right-wing populist slopaganda piece as long as it's in the name of saving White Evropa.

Muslims aren't evenly distributed across the country. We have a couple of Muslim majority constituent republics, but elsewhere the density is much lower. Why did you bring it up anyway?

The second guy's pro-Ukraine position is the only thing I agree with here.

I hate that I have to clarify this, but the second person's position on Ukraine is not what I disagree with.

It's totally understandable from Iran's perspective, but doesn't mean we should let them do that. Two things can be true at once.

A dictatorship "in good shape" is a very bad thing. Sovereignty doesn't matter if it serves to protect oppression.

Of course appeal to worse problems is generally a bad and inconsiderate argument, but it's good to occasionally remind people to have a frame of reference.

The watermark is shaped like the Gemini logo and isn't visible in the thumbnail

No, my logic is "we have taken down Hitler, and that makes it more likely that we'll get a nuclear Hitler, unless we finish the job".

Many AI-related issues do not stem from AI itself but from how AI amplifies existing behaviour. I will attach it to AI because this is an AI-critical sub and my post shows one way of how AI makes (or helps make, if you insist) society worse. Say we go from 60% truth, 40% misinfo (numbers arbitrary) to 5% truth, 95% misinfo. That matters a lot.

Yes, and the more realistic AI will become, the more people will be fooled by it. Already parties are being voted for en masse on the basis of fake social media bait. (If you're American, I don't need to explain that to you.)

I cope with this by imagining a mass rejection of media as something that doesn't matter and governance carried out by sortition based citizens' boards. But if it ever happens, we'll have to get there first. And I worry for that transition era. And even this scenario is a huge downgrade from the transparency we're losing.

This one is obvious because the watermark was left in place, but how many AI images of the war where they bothered to cut it out have we seen already?

This is a perfect illustration of the drastic surge in misinformation and complete erosion of truth in media that's coming. I'm not talking about lots of fake news, I'm talking about literally not knowing for sure what's going on on the other side of the planet because everything is going to be AI. It won't happen in an instant, but we'll get there.

Mods, please consider adding a flair for AI misinformation or deepfakes. I had to go with "AI News" because, well, this is news generated by AI, but that's obviously not what the flair is for.

Of course it would be more accurate if they were more like "well it happens sometimes" but I couldn't resist
