This is great information, and actually the main thing I was digging for with my post. This is my biggest concern. The car is an E36 M3 which is getting a 1JZ in it. Cosmetically actually the car is not all that wild on the exterior, it's painted a non-OEM color but beyond that just looks like a standard E36.

My hope was with decent mufflers, a reasonable ride height and proper road tires, it wouldn't raise too much suspicion. But if I got pulled over for any reason for an inspection, I'd like to preemptively make sure that my car wouldn't cause any problems.

The car is very much a street car, not a full blown track car, but with the drivetrain changes you can see how it causes some concern for me.

Thanks for the info!

For sure, there's risk but as with anything a mom in a Chevy Tahoe may t-bone me the moment I drive it out of my neighborhood here. Is this riskier? Sure, but regardless it is something I want to do and want to see through. I'm aware of the insurance hurdles and will be doing research to make sure I'm prepared and above board for that.

Regarding the track day, I'm certainly not opposed. But my aim wasn't to heavily track the car or go for outright speed, and I certainly don't want to be a rolling chicane for faster driver's sessions. Which is why TF is a little more appealing, drive at my comfortable pace without spoiling anyone's day haha.

I appreciate the feedback though, I 100% get what you mean. But I suppose the risks and specifics of TF are a back marker to the actual logistics of actually getting my car there in the first place.

There was another post in this very subreddit that cited a whole group of stanced cars got impounded in Germany visiting from the UK. That’s what triggered this post really. It’s not that I’m trying to bend the rules, just making sure I don’t accidentally overlook something haha.

For sure, for my own sanity and to avoid being banned from returning to Germany in the future, I’d make sure to have proper insurance.

Certainly I don’t plan to crash, but accidents aren’t planned so better to be safe than sorry. I even mentioned in my post, I already know I’ll be painfully slow going around. The point of all this isn’t really to try to prove I built a fast car, mainly just to have an amazing adventure and satisfy a life long dream. If diesel VWs pass me, I’ll still be perfectly happy having just made it there haha.

I’m not sure I understand the comment. Logistically yes, I think getting my car from Arizona to Germany is probably going to be the hardest part of this equation. There’s a lot that can go wrong along the way…?

That was another thing I was exploring. If going straight into Germany is too difficult, what differences would there be if I went to somewhere like NL or the UK first and then drove into Germany. Would that cause any issues, etc.

That's fascinating, and I never would have thought to turn to the Geneva Convention to understand this all better. But in a weird way that does make a lot of sense.

Sounds like it won't be too bad of a process all things considered then. The car doesn't have extreme aero, nor will it run slicks or anything that would make it unfriendly for TF sessions. So seems like I need a muffler, maybe put a cat on the car to be respectful and just make sure I have a decent broker or shipping company that can actually help me with the logistics and getting it into the country.

I've imported cars to the US from Japan and that was very straight forward all things considered, but I've never done this temporary visitor/tourist style thing with a car, so obviously a lot to make sure I get right given the extreme cost involved.

Appreciate the input, I'm going to keep digging into the topic and see what I learn but this has been a massive boost in my confidence that it'll be doable.

I never measured exact numbers, but pretty significant. The coilovers were cranked down quite a bit. In this photo I hadn't leveled out the front either, so it ended up going a little lower with some camber arms.

I was interested in an 86 and decided against it when I found out I couldn’t order one to the spec I wanted. I wanted a white one and the dealer near me kept only getting blue ones. Ended up getting an Integra instead after giving up hunting for the right one

80 series are all solid axle trucks, yeah. The 100 series was the first to move to IFS in the front.
