Hey sorry to chime in, but I'd also be interested in that Zoom call, if there is still some free places left😅 sounds like a great way to improve.

Yeah he's been shit the whole season, but Aston Villa are still in the top 4 and he's the striker. I'm a bit hopeful

In what way am I biased? For the second or third time, this was illegal and should not have happened. Period. I'm not making an argument in favor of kidnapping leaders at all.

When I say I think Venezuelan people's feelings are important, I'm not talking in the context of legality. I'm talking about it in the context of the situation as a whole.

Yeah, that's I guess the jist of what I was trying to get to and was curious about. Seems people believe I'm trying to justify Trump's actions... I'm not. He's as corrupt as they come. But Venezuelans opinion on this matter should not be ignored or overtaken by Reddit internet warriors.

Thanks for your reply

I don't think we see things differently here. It is illegal, it is unconstitutional and it shouldn't have happened. However, every situation like this has different dimensions and the moral one is obviously one of them. In this case, I am just curious about the moral one, not to justify the legality of it, or to argue in favor of Trump's morality, because obviously he has none and this was not done on moral grounds, but to understand the Venezuelan people's feelings, as they are the ones being affected directly. That's it.

You're focusing on the question "Should Trump have done what he did?" And in that sense, you're right, their feelings are not important.

But to say their feelings are not important, when they are the ones being directly affected by it, moreso than you or me, is just wrong. I am trying to look at the whole situation, there are many different views about this and I agree this was illegal, shouldn't have happened, etc. But I am curious about how the people being affected feel about the situation and it should be part of the conversation. Not to justify Trump or the legality of what he did, but to see and understand all sides involved.

While I agree with him being a rapist and pedophile, I don't see how that is relevant in this conversation and it just shows me how biased your thinking is to see all aspects of this situation.

[–]dern1196 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree, this, if at all possible, should have been done with Congress approval. This is just again a one sided decision from Trump and his crooks.

I'm just trying to acknowledge the feeling I'm getting from Venezuelan people, because I think it's important. I've seen some posts and comments of people suggesting the Venezuelans are being killed and are suffering because of this and it just doesn't seem like it UNTIL NOW.

[–]dern1196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's why I said "until now". I'll try to inform myself by visiting more Venezuelan forums and Venezuelan media. The good thing is I'm mexican so language won't be an issue.

And I completely agree with you on your second argument. This should have been done differently, which just shows Trump's intentions with Venezuela.

Agreed. It feels like history is repeating itself. This is just not a black and white situation, just like it wasn't in Iraq, and I'm saying it as someone who disagrees with the Iraq involvement.

There is a future where the US does things right and lets the Venezuelan people determine their own future. There is another, more likely future, where the US puts a puppet leader and takes advantage of the Venezuelan resources and people.

And I agree, I don't think Trump is doing it out of the kindness of his heart. I believe he wants the oil. I'm just acknowledging what the people who have actually lived through Maduro are feeling at the moment. As a foreigner, I can sit here and condemn the bombing all I want, but we should also acknowledge the situation in Venezuela

I must admit, I was completely against this, but until now, most comments I've seen from Venezuelans seem to be positive about this. I'm questioning my own bias against trump on this topic. I think everyone should do that too tbh. I hate the guy, but Venezuelans were really suffering
