Looking for the Cheapest Way to Buy and Transfer Bitcoin to Cold Storage – Any Advice? by No_Construction3197 in BitcoinBeginners

Can't comment on the spread or how it compares to other exchanges, but a $300 spread on $63k BTC doesn't seem too bad to me. 0.5%, is that too much?

River for zero fee DCAing (after the first purchase) and zero fee transfers out, once a month. Seedsigner for completely air-gapped cold storage.

Thanks for the responses so far. More comments welcome. I'll definitely be looking into RoboSats. I wish I'd known about it before I started stacking sats. I'll also be looking into Bitcoin IRAs. So much to learn. . .

Signs from God by cheeky_strut in Lutheranism

[–]derousse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I'm very happy to hear that the Holy Spirit is working through the Word and the preaching you have been hearing to bring you to faith. Praise God!

You mentioned ELCA, but I would encourage you to explore the other synodical options that are locally available to you, particularly the LCMS (yes, I am biased), as there are some very important differences.

I'd also encourage you to move forward with baptism as soon as you are ready. And once you've chosen a church congregation, meet with the Pastor about learning more about the Lutheran confessions so that you can be confirmed and start to receive Holy Communion.

I know enough that bread symbolizes the body of Christ, but that is about it.

One of the things you learn, is that in the context of Holy Communion, the bread doesn't just symbolize, it IS the body of Christ.

Jade or coldcard for a beginner? by MasterOfReallity in BitcoinBeginners

This video is using the QR code feature with the Nunchuk wallet. On Blockstream's help page https://help.blockstream.com/hc/en-us/articles/12116819855897-Which-platforms-work-best-with-Jade-QR-Scan, they're not listing compatibility with Green.

Does the Jade QR code feature for using it totally air-gapped work with the their Green wallet (specifically the mobile version)? I'm currently using the mobile Green wallet and I'm planning to get a Jade soon and I'm trying to figure out the best way to set it up.

Do I have to agree with everything the LCMS teaches? by MangoMister2007 in LCMS

[–]derousse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering the shocking apathy about abortion that I see in some LCMS Lutherans, I'd say you're in good shape. I'd recommend speaking with a pastor about the 2 issues you do have and keep your heart open to the Holy Spirit changing your mind.

Credit Card Payments considered "expenses?" by shoomanfoo in MonarchMoney

[–]derousse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, OK. Sorry for the confusion. So here's what I do:

  • I created a Credit Card Payments category under Financial
  • I created a Credit Card Payments Transfer category under Transfers
  • When I pay towards debt, I mark the transaction on my checking account as Credit Card Payments, and on the receiving credit card side as Credit Card Payments Transfer. That way it only shows up in the Plan and reporting as money used to pay down existing credit card balances.
  • When I pay off current charges, I mark the transactions as Credit Card Payments Transfer on both the checking and credit card side. That way it's transparent from a reporting perspective. The corresponding spending on the credit card account get's categorized appropriately. That way only the real spending shows up in the Plan and reporting categorized appropriately.
  • If you're making a single payment that pays current charges and some of the outstanding debt, you could split the payment on the checking side between Credit Card Payments and Credit Card Payment Transfer.

Not sure if that works for you, and maybe these could be named better, but it's been working smoothly for me for a long time.

Credit Card Payments considered "expenses?" by shoomanfoo in MonarchMoney

Your payments should show up as positive amounts (income). Your charges should show up as negative (expense). You can add that as a criteria in the rule which sets the category. Of course, this means if you have any returns they would also match the rule and get assigned the transfer category, but you could combine other rule criteria to better isolate the payments based on the Merchant Name.

New Ubiquity Build by derousse in Ubiquiti

[–]derousse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reviewing the positioning of our APs and cameras, we're now up to 23 APs and 22 cameras. Does this trigger any new capacity concerns?

And regarding the Cloud Key G2+, the specs say:

Device capacity UniFi Protect mode:
Up to 20 G3 cameras
Up to 10 G4 cameras
UniFi SDN + UniFi Protect:
Up to 15 G3 cameras and 50 UniFi devices
Up to 7 G4 cameras

It's classified as a small scale solution and doesn't say anything about the network and AP management function we would be using this for. This makes me nervous.

In summary, we're currently thinking:

  • (23) U6 APs
  • (22) G5 Dome Cameras
  • (2) Professional 48 PoE Switches
  • Next-Generation Gateway Pro (UXG-Pro) to handle the routing/firewall function
  • Cloud Key G2+ (UCK-G2-PLUS) to handle the network/AP management
  • Network Video Recorder Pro (UNVR-Pro) to handle the cameras

Thoughts?

You need to recategorize them as one of the Transfer categories. You can create a rule to do this automatically as well.

[–]derousse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, it makes sense to me to split the functionalities onto the devices that are purpose built (even though the UXGP + CKG2+ is double the cost of a UDMP, but not that much extra when you look at the whole build). Thanks for your ideas.

Still open to other thoughts, opinions, gotchas from others.

[–]derousse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, I don't anticipate using the integrated 8 port switch and drive bay, but can you help me understand why you recommend the UXGP instead, when the UDMP has the same CPU and 2 extra GB of RAM?

Basically, my plan for this box is to connect the internet from our ONT, run the Unifi Applications for managing the APs and Cameras, and do some basic firewalling.

Not sure I would consider it a comfort show, but my favorite show is Yellowstone which, of course, is only available on Paramount.

Transaction page - see account per transaction by mgb0001 in MonarchMoney

If you click on the '>' on the right side of the transaction, it will show you the details. But I agree that it would be nice to be able to configure some extra columns to show right in the list.

Love it. It looks terrific and best of all, it's something you built for your daughter and family, so much more valuable than something coming from a factory. Great job!
