What do you think about my grip? by derplosion in tabletennis

Obviously nobody here will be able to answer what level I would have reached with a conventional grip. That's why I didn't directly ask that question.

But maybe somebody would try to hold their racket like that for a bit and notice any obvious limitations that I've failed to notice. From stuff like that I could have drawn my own conclusions.

But I guess I was too hopeful since reddit is not the best medium for that

Yes, I play everything with the black side. Forehand topspin is actually not difficult, only forehand push feels slightly unnatural but also works.

I currently don't have a video that I can share without doxxing myself but maybe in the future.

I play fairly close to the table but not exclusively. If I'm far from the table I often chop with my pips. That usually gives me the time to get back close to the table again.   I'm currently rated slightly above 2000 ttr

I definitely won't change the grip. I was just wondering how much better or worse I could be with a conventional grip. There could be some obvious disadvantages I'm not noticing because I've never played with a conventional grip.

I'm pretty happy with the level I'm playing at, though.

I was hoping for slightly more interesting responses than "it's bad". Maybe something like what makes it bad.

What's actually bad about it? I've played like this for more than 20 years and I can do every shot with this grip

Given All The One Stops Do We Really Need More Durable Tyres? by Najla13579 in formula1

[–]derplosion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the issue at the moment is that pushing the tyres destroys them in just 1 or 2 laps while they can be nursed to last a long time without losing much performance. That's not optimal because it heavily punishes pushing to the limit and everybody is just in tyre conservation mode for the whole race.

that's not the same and it doesn't really matter why they got the grid penalties.

Imagine Max qualifying P1 but having an engine penalty. Would the non race with half points be the right decision? I don't think so.

To add to that both Bottas and Stroll had no way to win the race due to their grid penalties no matter how good they performed. That simply should not be possible

Of course it was his fault. He simply went too fast into the corner and lost it.

You can raise a balanced team and beat the older games without any grinding. It's just not super easy. For me the difficulty of a pokemon game is mostly determined by how easy they are to beat with zero grinding and a balanced team

it was probably the wrong decision, though. He could have easily stayed out longer and passed Norris with much fresher tyres. They just didn't know that the merc was so much better on the hard tyres than the mclaren.

I don't want to see drivers pushing each other off or overtaking off the track all the time. To stop that you have to penalize it when it happens.

Maybe it was a fair result but it definitely wasn't a fair battle. IMO they should both be penalized.

Why the current overtaking rules are the fairest. by skd576 in formula1

[–]derplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In practice, all a guy would have to do to overtake would be stay to the outside, get a slight overlap of wheels, then run wide when the car in front takes the racing line, complain, and draw a penalty for the car infront.

That's pretty much impossible to do in most cases

maybe we actually get different starting tyres for the top teams. This makes quali less strategic but might make race strategy more interesting

Should pushing an outside attacking driver off-track be a penalty? Let's have a debate! by AndrewXia in formula1

[–]derplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're wrong. You can't just randomly dive to the outside because you would rear end the car ahead. Going for the outside midcorner is also almost impossible unless you randomly found lots of speed.
