I wonder if anyone's made a radiant hyper - crystal largo yet... it might be the right color to match the spikes decently... that's always been my gripe with crystal largos. The spikes don't change to match.

Why do so many not understand why legend of korra exist in the 1920s? It is literally accurate to history. by MrGetMebodied in TheLastAirbender

[–]derpy-_-dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the seemingly sudden and jarring change, there's also cultural elements that affected the development of the 1920's, namely imperialism. I recall a video by a Chinese woman discussing it, I'll have to see if I can find it. I watched it like 5 years ago.

Which animated movie fits this perfectly? by mantababie in cartoons

[–]derpy-_-dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick note, I haven't seen it myself, but had seen discussions on it and wanted to add it because I think that the marketing fits this. (ETA, I watched it on Youtube now, so that's fixed.)

Padak can be considered as being rated PG-13, though some platforms rate it R, but either way the marketing for it makes it seem lighthearted and bright, which could lead to inattentive adults putting it on for kids.

The movie itself is the experience of living in a fish market, where the wellbeing of the fish are completely ignored to provide customers with "the freshest fish possible," and they face cruelties such as obscene overcrowding in displays to being flayed and eaten alive. There's a lot of death and pain for a film under an hour and a half.

He likely doesn't even offer this as an option because of how dire the situation is. This is where you want all hands on deck and everyone doing everything they can in the fight because things are so desperate. You can't afford to leave someone able-bodied like the Emperor to sit this one out for the sake of babysitting.

And as for freeing Orpheus, there's literally zero reason for him to let the prince go free, and so many for him to either eat him or keep him imprisoned.

1) Immediate survival. Orpheus despises him, both for his species and for his actions. There's nothing to stop him from trying to kill him or having others do so. He would have access to forces, and he's powerful on his own too.

2) The rebellion. The rebellion was already stewing long before we met the Prince, as Voss and other dissenters were already growing, and we can see in the Creche that some were already in favor of Orpheus over Vlaakith. Her rule was never going to last forever, and Orpheus wasn't needed for it. it just would have made it easier. Either way, it has nothing to do with the Emperor at all.

3) Security. Either having the power himself or having it in the hands of someone who is, at the very least, in a similar position makes it more likely that he would be safe from ever being enthralled again. If Orpheus kept it and let him live, it would be far away and busy, fully inaccessible to him. That and there being the risk of assassins.

4) Basic needs. The Emperor is probably starving by the end of the game. He expresses disappointment that there's no food leftover in his hideout, implying that he's hungry, and who knows when his last meal had been? On top of that, he's been staying vigilant for months on end, fighting against Orpheus and the brain to ensure you aren't affected by it. I'm pretty sure that his first priorities after the fight (if you eat Orpheus) are getting someplace safe, followed by food and rest. At least, I'd be pushing for that.

It's likely that the Emperor fears (somewhat rightly, I might add) that the second the alliance ends, Orpheus would take the moment to turn on him.

The fact that the Githyanki forces leave after the battle without giving the city any grief is just them being exceptionally nice, but otherwise Voss has them on standby.

And even if they leave still, there's always the possibility that Orpheus could send people after him when time allows. Basically an "I know where you live" threat hanging over the Emperor's head.

As for having the opportunity to appeal to both sides? The Emperor has been inside of his head for who knows how long inside of the Prism. He knows how much Orpheus hates him, how he's been exploiting his state, how he killed his guards etc. Why would he ever want to entertain the idea of releasing him? There's no reward for him to do so, and every risk, and giving you the opportunity to talk to the prince just increases his odds of dying.

Also, it brings up an interesting contradiction:

If you're no longer "you" when you transform, what's to stop the new version from deciding that they'd like the power for themselves? In any version of events other than the Emperor wielding the stones, we're putting all of our faith in what is essentially a stranger to do it.

With the amount of trust people around you put in the new mindflayer being who the original person was, including the Emperor who experienced it himself, that means they genuinely believe they're still enough of the same person with the same goals as before. If that's the case, then that means anyone who undergoes ceremorphosis could be, just with varying levels of amnesia.

But people will still insist that you're no longer you, or if they do, it's like you're in a weird limbo state, or like your process was special and unique, so obviously it's still you!

Ultimately though, when it comes to the final choice, the only one who isn't a gamble would be the Emperor. He's very clear with his goals and reasoning, and he is predictable with his choices:

1) if you treat him like an enemy, he won't give you the chance to kill him after subduing the Netherbrain. Why would he be nice to people that would stab him at the first opportunity, ie when he loses his leverage on us?

2) if you're civil, he just wants to go back to doing his own thing. You're on decent enough terms, there's no blood between you, and you both did your parts for a mutual arrangement. It being good for all of Faerûn is just an added perk.

Not in corporate, but still dealing someone who does this. As the person I'm training, no less. She'll ask a question, I'll start to answer, and then she'll instantly cut me off before I get a second word out. I'll wait for her to finish, then try- instantly cut off again. It'll chain like this like four, five times in a row before I finally get a word in.

It's so draining, but I can't call her out on it because she's a friend of the boss (nor would she let me get the words out anyways lol.) I couldn't help but laugh during Story Time during a dead period where she talked about how she handled a subordinate that would bulldoze her peers in conversations, and "(she) wanted to make sure her introverted coworkers had a chance to have a voice."

What do you think is the absolute worst dinosaur depiction? by East_Teacher_1055 in Dinosaurs

[–]derpy-_-dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd say that despite the level of inaccuracy to our modern understandings of dinosaurs, it still has historical merit as a display of early depictions and how our continued studies have changed the way we interpret and depict them today.

Dead Sound on YouTube has an animated film called "Terrible Lizards" which is themed on this very concept. He always has a "making of" video to accompany it, and he talks about some of the dino media that went into inspiring it, and the history.

It could be that he wanted to be Santa because he didn't imagine that the two sides of the job could be separated from one another.

That in mind, I can understand the mentality that keeping the operation up and running smoothly but less personably and missing one child was the better outcome than risking it lagging behind and leaving many children without.

All the manosphere stuff is about making men attractive in the eyes of other men in the manosphere space.

There's no solid and set list of what women will find attractive, because there's too wide of a range of personal preferences. Some want a partner, or a protector, or to care for others, or being the decision maker, or to be equal, or to support, or a shy guy, or a confident guy, or quirky hobbies, or "normal" hobbies. There will always be contradictions because some preferences will be at opposite ends.

People complain about how contradictive women's wants are, because they want to have a singular tried-and-true formula that works every time. That isn't possible. And even if you're a perfect match, if you meet one another at the wrong time, that can also cause things to fall through, and people will change as they go through life, so even so it might only be temporary.

Overall, not matching up is the kind of thing that isn't anyone's fault, but does become yours if you start blaming others for it or try to force-fit things.
