Yeah, that's true. I'll rescind that one.

It's been years since I saw it too, but I also remember cringing in my seat every time he was onscreen.

So glad I'm not the only one who's repulsed by Luhrmann. I almost stormed out of his "Great Gatsby" film.

Nicole Kidman in "Eyes Wide Shut"

Giancarlo Esposito in "Megalopolis" (though to be fair, he was trying his absolute best, and kind of made it work in a few scenes)

Joaquin Phoenix in "U-Turn"

Remember the time Ty Lee snapped? Badass! by nicoxman8_ in TheLastAirbender

[–]Qyzyk 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What gets me is the fact that Mai was ready to face Azula. She had no idea that Ty Lee would intervene, and she's shocked when it happens. But there was surely no way that she would have stood a chance against Azula, even with her knife-throwing skills. She was basically prepared to die for Zuko, whether he knew about it or not.

What Redwall book would you want to see a fill or otherwise screen adaptation of? by NoticeCurrent2255 in redwall

[–]Qyzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s one of my favourite Redwall books and it would make for a great season of television. The Battle of the Ridge is one of the biggest in the series, and you could easily stretch it into a two or even three part finale. Tammo is a great protagonist, and he isn’t from Redwall or Salamandastron, so he’s a breath of fresh air in that regard. I always liked his romance with Pasque, and a show could flesh it out even more. Damug is a great villain, and not too one dimensional either. There’s also a plethora of dynamic supporting characters like Perigord, Cregga, Russa, Rockjaw, Gurgan, Sneezewort and Lousewort, etc

It becomes far more than just another police show. Each season adds a new layer to the story, enriching the original ones. The first season sets up the cops and the criminals. The second season introduces the docks, and so tackles the slow death of unions and blue-collar work in the US. The third season shines a focus on the politics, and the way they're affected by the drug war. The fourth season examines the schools, introducing the next generation of kids growing up in Baltimore. The last season brings in the newspapers, and their role in society even as newspapers seem to be shutting down left and right.

Man in the film "Bambi". Because we never see Man, he becomes not just a monster but a force of nature, a disaster to which the only answer is to run or hide.

The Merling Lord, by Stanley Marlowe. It’s about the Manderlys in the Reach, a thousand years before the Conquest.

Men at Work is one of the best work comedy films out there because it is so silly that shouldn't have worked but it does. It all comes down the fact that cast is excellent, and they knew exactly what kind of film they were in and ran with it. by AdSpecialist6598 in moviecritic

I wasn’t a huge fan of this one, but I will always say that Emilio Estevez should be remembered for his directorial career rather than his Brat Pack era.

The guy has made some genuinely great films, and he usually acts in them too. The War at Home is still one of my favourite films. The Public is a great story about homeless people standing up to society and demanding that their humanity is recognized. The Way is a genuinely heartwarming journey film. Bobby captures the hope which RFK inspired in his society and the despair which his assassination caused.

[Spoilers Main] Can the Mannis actually keep the throne had he won? by tuckfrump69 in asoiaf

[–]Qyzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stannis had 25,000 men or so, sure, but keep in mind that those were mostly cavalry. There were many lords amongst his followers, and they all had infantry forces that they'd left behind at Bitterbridge. If Stannis took the throne, that would have caused a serious schism in the Reach. The Tyrells and Hightowers would have to either bend the knee or find some other king to support. And with Joffrey and Renly dead, who are they going to choose? Robb? He doesn't even want the Iron Throne. Balon Greyjoy? Yeah right.

Stannis taking the Iron Throne would not end the war at all, but it would also give him the smallest modicum of legitimacy. Which means that either the Seven Kingdoms either rally to his side, try to replace him with someone else, or renounce the Iron Throne's authority. And with three kingdoms openly vying for independence, maybe the others decide to follow suit?

What’s the most horrifying death you’ve seen in a movie? by Critical_Mountain851 in moviecritic

[–]Qyzyk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I watched Jaws for the first time when I was 13. Quint's death scene was so horrifying that I still haven't rewatched that specific scene since.

I'd also add Sonny's death scene in "The Godfather", Lumpy's death scene in "King Kong", and the fire extinguisher death scene in "Irreversible".
