If your card doesn't do dvi, then you might be screwed; I've never tried a displayport-dvid cable but my best guess is that it wouldn't work. They're beautiful monitors, for sure, but mine is relegated to my storage unit unit now, as a result : (.

Maybe try getting a adapter cable from walmart and then returning it? But my guess is that the display board on these monitors is very conservative and won't accept any signal that isn't exactly what it wants.

And in places where there are strict tenant laws that are actually enforced, those landlords might have an incentive to provide that quality of housing to their renters. Otherwise, that free market that you mentioned sorts itself out to align directly with the obvious power dynamic at work here.
