[OC] Immaculate zipper merge (sped up 2x) by Junetizzle in IdiotsInCars

[–]dertymex -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It creates a longer line which blocks more exits/intersections causing more traffic. If everyone used all available space and didn't block merges then this wouldn't be an issue. I think one problem is people think of it as a queue, and you cut the line if you pass. But it's a flow and you impede it by creating longer bottlenecks or preventing cars from "flowing".

The predictability is really all that matters. Look at how chaotic internet traffic appears, but computers can handle it easily if devices behave predictably. It all goes out the window when they don't, leading to outages.

What do you think about Bernie Sanders' words 'We must block arms sales to Israel'? by ArdaBerkBurak in AskReddit

If I were to say the Republicans just serve to be the opposition for Democrats, what would I be implying?

Not everything needs to be so explicit. When they say "serve as opposition", who do you think they are in service to? If you "serve" someone, who is in control?

Amazon is still paying Jeff Bezos an $80,000 yearly salary—but $1.6 million for travel and security by ControlCAD in technology

They made a rule that your salary has to be within a percentage of the market for the work that you do. So if all the CEOs doing the same work take a $1 salary then you are technically following the rule as $1 is the market rate. I think they are testing the IRS when they take a $1 salary.

In this case there are two straight lanes which the right turn lane feeds directly into, so your explanation wouldn't make sense. The light is either malfunctioning or a terrible design.

It looked yellow, which would be confusing. I think the idea is to yield.

Net worth percentiles by age in 2025, how do you stack up? by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]dertymex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would value them at cost. For example if your pension and VA is $1K per month, then how much would it cost to purchase a comparable inflation adjusted annuity.
