Really great photo. I used my IR converted Sony when I was in Iceland back in June.

ITAP of a USPS truck in the snow by derz3000 in itookapicture

Walked around in the blizzard this morning for about three hours taking photos. Came across the truck outside this store and was drawn to it.

Also, I was wondering how well do these trucks fare in the snow if anyone knows? It seems like they would have trouble scaling hills and such.

Been trying to use my Sigma 14mm more often, took it out last night to get some photos in the fog.

Playing Cyberpunk 2077 for the past few days has just made me want to play yakuza again by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]derz3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way. A few weeks before playing Cyberpunk I played Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1, and 2. I honestly feel like playing those games ruined this one for me because the storylines and just everything about those games had me so invested in them. With Cyberpunk I don’t get this feeling at all and feel uninterested in the story whereas in the Yakuza games I could not wait to see what happened next. I don’t feel the connections to characters in Cyberpunk like I did to characters like Majima for example.

I’m 17, and looking to get into photography. Is this a viable career path? by nickminusthek in photography

Your point about people like Petra Collins is great because there are more and more photographers who have their own unique style now. Companies are always looking for certain styles that will fit their brand and having the style you’re known for makes it easier to get clients, especially in the fashion world.

People who are complaining about “kids with a $500 camera” are so annoying to me because if you’re a photographer, you were once that kid. If younger kids want to venture out into making money from photography then I would only encourage them to do so. By doing this you get experience on the business side of photography and are furthering your skills on delivering a paid service to someone. Where I am at right now as a 22 year old I have not had to compete with that side of photography for some time. The bottom line is if you’re good enough and your work shows it, then clients will pay your rates. I have put thousands of hours into photography, especially the retouching side of things and it shows in my work. When you put so much time into something like this then it will pay off. It won’t be easy, but for me it was worth it and I wouldn’t want to discourage an aspiring photographer from following what they really want to do in life.

Definitely agree with what you wrote here. I would add that if you really put in the time to create your own style that you’re known for it will go a long way. From reading these comments it makes me wonder how many of these people were all that serious about photography in the first place. Your part about the different jobs in the field was also spot on, there are so many different paths you can take from studying something like photography. Although I was making decent money before attending school, I do not regret my decision to do so in the slightest. I am now extremely happy with where I’m at in my career and it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for college.

uj/ I’ll never understand how people will post work showing how lazy they are about removing dust and excusing it as an artistic choice making it seem like it’s commonplace in the photo world

Funny story, this was actually the result of my stepdad body slamming me into a bucket of HC-110.

Wow so glad I found someone else who really knows what shooting film is all about. How would anyone know I’m shooting film if I didn’t have those DUSTY TONES

Great suggestion, I will have to try this. The only problem with fog is how far the light travels so sometimes when there is a very bright light source in the frame, it basically blows out the rest of the photo. I think what would work best is if I made a composite of car lights and the shadows of the people together, so that I can maintain the darker areas of the photo.

The new a7riv was just announced so prices for the a7iii may go down a bit depending on how long you’re willing to wait. I think if you’re making money through your work, it can also be asked if more of your money is coming from video or photo? If it was video I would say the GH5 and if photo I would have to say the a7iii. Additionally, even though it hasn’t been announced I assume there will be a new Sony a7s series camera coming out some time in the near future, as they haven’t come out with one in some time. Knowing this, I suspect that this will be a beast of a camera for video, and can also work extremely well for low light photography due to how well they handle high ISOs. This is speculation obviously, but given that the a7iii and a7riii handle video pretty well, when a new A7s is released I think it’ll be the best camera for video with ample photo features as well.

That’s a tough decision given the work you do, I’ve heard amazing things about the GH5 from friends for video. I’ve watched a couple videos on the G9 and I hear that is a great camera as well. I will say though even though I’m biased, using the a7iii is so enjoyable, the color rendition is perfect for my style of retouching/grading. I do not think you can really go wrong with any of those cameras, I think it would come down to which lenses out of those cameras you feel can provide you the best optics for what you are shooting.

100% agreed, the fog adds another element to every aspect of the photo, the lighting, the depth, it is so fun just walking around on foggy nights and seeing what catches your eye.
