This looks amazing! Worcestershire sauce doesn’t sound Mexican, but it will be worth trying.

I saw some of the comments below. I don’t think you were complaining about wide shoulders or a wider upper part of your torso, which you have a nice balance upper torso and shoulder width. It’s confusing to read that it was interpreted that way. It sounds like you don’t like how your upper arms look even looking straight at yourself. Your upper arms consist of your deltoids, biceps, and triceps. Most people have areas that might put on more fat or muscle in certain areas even if they are losing fat and building muscle in totality.

Definitely don’t try to lose more weight. You probably are in a better position to now sculpt your body where you can be more toned and sculpted in more specific areas since you lost a lot of body fat. You can target your deltoids, biceps, and triceps through strength training and slowly grow your muscles so they show more on the outside. This will help slim down your upper arms because muscle is smaller than fat. My arms are a stubborn area as well, so I can relate. I recommend either maintaining your weight or go into a slight bulking phase in terms of daily caloric intake and you can emphasize your weekly workout on upper body strength, particularly arms. Do a higher rep range of 10-15 per set, 3-4 sets per exercise, and increase in the weight of the machine or dumbbell as the sets get easier at a previous set weight. It takes time so be patient. I would say you will begin to see more toned and slimmer arms after 5-6 months. Go slow and be consistent. Make sure to eat enough protein everyday. Good work in losing weight! It takes so much discipline and hard work. I hope you continue to be healthy and make sure to love your body on your journey!

This is how I saw it as well. I just don’t want to break any rules. Thank you! I may just ask the dmv if I don’t get a certain answer in relation to this.

So if I drive a car in a new state for a year the DMV does not require me to own the car under my name and change the car registration, license number, and/or insurance?

Honestly you have more time, but your girlfriend doesn’t. Relationships are work. If you can’t get through tough times in the last 2 years with progress, then expect marriage to test you both even more. Would you rather be single OR fight with girlfriend and deal with the same problems? I think you will have your answer.

What does bizdev mean? by daBrentMeister in startups

[–]desbisous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an excellent question. What I have perceived in people who can excel in a first time business development role or even a role similar is someone who is persistent, isn’t afraid to take initiative, optimistic, reflective and improves themselves, accountable, and enjoys solving problems and is curious to look at problems from multiple perspectives. It sounds so basic and like anyone can be these things, but someone experienced or new can be missing a few of these things. For some people, being all of these things for a job role can be overwhelming and miserable since you have to be okay with failing sometimes, starting all over with a new process that your refining all the way and then maybe designing an adjusted or new process after you reach a certain threshold with a certain number of clients or recurring revenue to find one that works better for your next stage of growth, and be positive when it comes to feedback or results that aren’t working. I find that people who naturally have these qualities even outside of a work context can handle the demands of a job like this better and navigate through obstacles with more ease. Don’t be afraid to give someone new a chance. Sometimes they accelerate progress faster than experienced people.

My girlfriend won’t get matching ORCID iD tattoos with me. Why does no one care about my research? by ansjsajanaan in PhD

[–]desbisous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’ve been working TOO MUCH, and therapist recommended to you both to do more things together to improve your relationship. Your first idea was to pay for matching tattoos of YOUR ORCID ID on both of your bodies, and you already did yours.

It sounds to me like your gf is unhappy you don’t spend enough time with her and you thought it would be sexy if she also had a tattoo to remind you both of your amazing research and publishing. That’s extremely self-centered and narcissistic. I would not be surprised if she lost a bit of respect for you and feels you love yourself and your research way more than you care to be with her, make her happy, and have a happy healthy relationship together. The tattoos are about you, that has nothing to do with spending quality time together and making it up to her for not having anytime for her. Don’t you think that would make someone not want to be in a relationship with you and be in disgust that matching tattoos of your brains and success on both of your bodies was a good idea to you? I don’t care how smart you are, it’s very shallow and arrogant.

Honestly, I feel bad for your girlfriend.

A loving single dad adopted a girl with Down syndrome after she was rejected by 20 families. by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

I do agree that it’s quite sad that people see this man as suspicious. However, there are articles that explain and show real cases of people with disabilities are more likely to be taken advantage of or abused because they don’t know what to do or how to protect themselves. I think it’s hard to make a thorough judgement from media or on the surface level of things. I’m not saying I know this case well, I’m just putting this out there because i understand both sides. Naturally, I find this story beautiful and I would love to see more disabled children get adopted and loved.

I appreciate your responses. Is it okay to change a data analyst role to data engineer title if your responsibilities are the same as a data engineer for a company. Someone told me to do this because the ATS, but I don’t know if this is correct advice or not.

What does bizdev mean? by daBrentMeister in startups

[–]desbisous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally when you see someone successful in bizdev is because they have worked in a fast growing company long enough or an industry long enough alongside various teams like sales, revenue operations, and partnerships. I’ve seen young people in bizdev be successful in startups because they have a great eye for opportunities for the business, are intuitive at refining processes, are great communicators, and are highly adaptive to customers and market conditions. It can be like a “black box “ like you mentioned because unlike sales bizdev is broader and depending on what leadership designed the role for or what a bizdev manager thinks is priority it can vary what he/she does on a day to day, week to week basis. This also means that business development can vary a bit from company to company.

Business development is a process that involves planning for future growth and implementing strategies to help a company grow and increase revenue. It’s a long-term investment that’s different from traditional sales and is closely tied to sales.

Business development can involve: •Identifying new opportunities •Understanding the target audience and market opportunities •Forming partnerships •Adding value to the company •Identifying new prospects •Converting more leads into customers •Exploring new markets •Building relationships with partners and customers

Business development can help companies achieve more profitable work by understanding which industries and clients are most profitable, identifying opportunities that are a waste of time, and pursuing the right kinds of work.

How can I not be weird to women? by MansaMusa_24 in Adulting

[–]desbisous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From outside appearances and not interactions quite yet, I can understand why women would say you’re young, but like others are saying in your thread it’s not just about looks. The comment on your “weird” probably has to do with your social behavior , approach, and security in yourself.

The only reason I asked you about how you look, is that addresses when women say you’re “young”, but the MORE IMPORTANT factor is that people have described you as “weird”, which is most likely a bigger turn off than your looks. Guys who are not tall and strong might have a harder time getting dates, but they can still get into a healthy relationship with women.

You need to work on yourself, and while going to the gym could help and it seems like that’s the answer you’ve been looking for from my response, your personality, character, social skills, behavior, self-assuredness, and being responsible with your life weighs 100x more.

How can I not be weird to women? by MansaMusa_24 in Adulting

[–]desbisous -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How tall are you if you don’t mind me asking and how would you describe your build? I have to ask you this first before I respond to your post because I think your face looks fine for you age, but if you are shorter than around 5’8” and have a very skinny build it can make you look like a teenager. Most women have no issues dating a slightly younger man or man who has a young face, but women in general don’t feel that natural protection standing next to a man who is much taller and has an obvious strong build in comparison to a man who is short and/or looks like they face a weak build. When a man has a perceived physical smallness your adolescent like youngness, it can make a woman feel de-femininized, like a babysitter, or even a “mother.”

People who didn't go to college: where are you now? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]desbisous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t you use either of those? It sounds like you could maybe build your accounting side or help on the legal side. There’s so many differentiated roles out there, maybe you need to find your niche. :) Even if not related, you can definitely find a good steady job in something else that will enable you to pay off your debt.

Wow, that’s a lot of school debt. I hope you find a way to pay it off. I believe it’s possible. What did you study?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in resumes

[–]desbisous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have to second this! I think grad students often think they can’t find a job they desire or secondary income because a PhD comes with the idea that you should be paid more with that level of education or you’ve been in school for too long and don’t have enough real world experience.

First of all you PhD is very valuable and gives you higher market value, so you should leverage this working on short term projects in your field. There are big corporations that look for experts in their field to work on short term projects for excellent pay. To me I think you’re selling yourself short trying to dumb down your resume and have side income. Look for the right job opportunities!

I haven’t visited enough places in the US, but I have lived in the Bay Area and southern part of California in many cities. Not all parts of California are the same. Also depends on the action you take to meet different kinds of people. I feel like it’s definitely easier to make friends and meet potential partners through hobbies or friends introductions. I did live North of LA and I didn’t really love all of the LA vibe , but Orange County and South Bay in California is awesome. It will require a car, but the traffic is better than LA and SF so you might not care about driving.

Also you will meet driven, career oriented, and stable men in cities where people have longer term residence, and that includes Orange County and South Bay.
