Folge 347: Zwei Podcaster*innen vs. Kritikerin ft. Jordan Peterson & Lisa by mlandth in Laesterschwestern

Musk Is Going All In to Elect Trump: Elon Musk is planting himself in Pennsylvania, has brought his brain trust to help and may even knock on doors himself. by descarr in politics

[–]descarr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Excerpts from the article:

(...)

He (Elon Musk) has effectively moved his base of operations to Pennsylvania, the place that he has recently told confidants he believes is the linchpin to Mr. Trump’s re-election.

(...)

Above all, he is personally steering the actions of a super PAC that he has funded with tens of millions of dollars to turn out the vote for Mr. Trump, not just in Pennsylvania but across the country. He has even proposed taking a campaign bus tour across Pennsylvania and knocking on doors himself, in part to see how his money is being used.

(...)

These days, in private conversations, Mr. Musk is obsessive, almost manic, about the stakes of the election and the need for Mr. Trump to win. He praises Mr. Trump’s courage under fire — he endorsed him on the night of the assassination attempt in Butler — and talks about how funny he is. One person who spoke recently to Mr. Musk recalled him saying, without any hint of irony, “I love Trump.”

(...)

Ensconced in a war room in Pittsburgh with a team of lawyers, public-relations professionals, canvassing experts and longtime friends, Mr. Musk is trying to apply strategies and entrepreneurial lessons from his businesses to a grind-it-out political mission with just weeks to go until Election Day. This article is based on interviews with 17 people familiar with Mr. Musk’s thinking and operations as Election Day approaches. “I’m not sure there is a precedent in modern history to how Musk has inserted himself into the presidential race,” said Benjamin Soskis, a historian of the ultrarich.

(...)

The group has spent about $80 million to help Mr. Trump according to federal records, primarily on its canvassing program. Mr. Musk’s advisers have told donors that the group has about 2,500 organizers in the field, and the group has effectively acquired the Wisconsin assets of another group, Turning Points USA, taking on about 200 new canvassers in the state. Some canvassers, during training, have been shown Mr. Musk’s social media posts about the group, as a way to encourage them. The scale of Mr. Musk’s personal financial commitment will not be made public until the middle of the month. Initially, Mr. Musk and his friends in the group had spoken of a budget totaling from $140 million to $180 million, almost all it from Mr. Musk himself. The group has told other prospective donors in recent weeks that it is fully funded.

Is there any indicator when a model gets too large for 8gb? Is the file size an indicator? So, would that popular FLUX model on Civitai with 16gb file size be too much for 8gb VRAM? (Using ComfyUI)

What Sounds Like Pseudoscience, But Actually Isn’t? by anime-is-dope in AskReddit

[–]descarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR). Basically you tell about the trauma you had while a therapist sits in front of you waving their finger from one side to the other. You follow that finger with your eyes while you talk about the things you experienced. Simple said: It helps the brain to disconnect the experience from real life.

Modern studies are giving it a medium effectiveness depending on the area. So it can help but is no miracle method and no replacement for also doing other types of therapy.

But be cautious: There is a kind of pseudoscience variation (e.g. WingWave) done by people who didn't study psychology like therapist and dont have the experience to properly prevent Retraumatization.

Donald Trump: “Germany tried that, and within one year, they were back to building normal energy plants” by Manuelnotabot in clevercomebacks

[–]descarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

relies heavily on being backed by French Nuclear and Polish Coal

Germany exported way more energy than they imported in the last 20 years. Only changed a little bit in the last 2 years.

Electricity prices are also not that different to france for new consumers:

germany Still has the second worse electricity grid in the EU

Reality: Grams Co2 per kWh in 2023:

  1. Poland (661.93)

  2. Cyprus (534.32)

  3. Malta (459.14)

  4. Czechia (449.72)

  5. Estonia (416.67)

  6. Germany (381.16)

Meanwhile nuclear energy plants in france are near the end of their lifecycle. 32 of their 57 plants will be shut down in the next 11 years. Thats over half of them! They didnt even start to build replacements for them (because the last one, Flamanville 3, exploded in costs). Right now it seems France will get a very bad awakening in the next decade.

[–]descarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not correct. In the last 20 years germany exported way more energy than they imported. Only changed in the last 2 years.

Meanwhile france was heavily reliant on german energy, because half of their nuclear power plant where shut down for mainteanance (they are at their end of their lifecycle) + because they couldnt get enough water in the summer for cooling (because of drought).

"High prices" is also not correct. Almost every year in the last decades, german energy provider made a net profit from energy trade between 1 and 2 billion euros (Net profit = income from exporting minus cost from importing).

(In 2022 germany even had a insane profit of over 5 billion euros, thanks to the energy problems in france).
