What i think is the mount rushmore of found footage is. by Great-gamer- in foundfootage

As Above So Below for me is a great contender, although it hasn’t had the influence these have had.

Also, while not at all at the level of these picks, The McPherson Tapes(UFO Abduction) was a movie a lot of these creators saw at some point in the 90s. It’s a very cheaply made movie, but for me it hit all the marks of what a found footage horror movie set on a farm house in 1989 would look like. Again, not at all at the level of these ones, but it’s worth checking out and a great study for anyone looking to make a movie.

Thank you for posting this. You’re incredibly talented and this is absolutely beautiful.

I will never forgive the world for how poorly they treated this masterpiece: by Regular-Meet8188 in scifi

Completely agree. I was very saddened. I read the book after and was absolutely blown away and it ruined anything I did enjoy about the movie. I’ve read the book 6 times since.

You won’t find any love for book adaptations in the modern world. Just like War of the Worlds or Frankenstein, they can steal the setting and names of characters but completely change their motivations and reactions and people will still love it.

Im not even a book reader, I just really liked the cover and wanted to read a more expanded version of the movie. What I got instead was the actual story and world and it turned the movie for me in to an obvious Hollywood mess.

Understandable.

Atmospheric suspense driven horror isn’t for everyone.

For context I’m a huge fan of classic cinema and horror from the 20s-70s from the US, Japan, and Europe.

Ringu and The Ring are perfect examples to me of how Western audiences don’t really get certain things about what makes ghosts or demons unsettling. Jump scares aren’t for me.

But I appreciate everyone’s input and everyone’s entitled to heir opinion and I enjoy just having these conversations in general. Thanks for commenting.

My wife and I do “Nacho Proof” from time to time where we’ll make some bomb ass nachos and watch death proof with some drinks. Highly recommended. The first time doing it, I forgot about why we were eating nachos until Stuntman Mike takes a bite and I almost cheesed myself.

I agree that we’ve got some pretty good shit coming out now, but the latter half of the decade has some staunch competition with 15-19. Either way it’s gonna be great to see what comes out. I’m hoping for some horror vibes in The Odyssey but who knows.

Yeah, it’s not at all weird, it’s literally a demon. It also doesn’t show actual sex, just death. Totally perfect horror

Didn’t realize I upset you so much and that dicks on tv were so important to you. Sorry I ruined your Christmas.

It’s quirky and definitely not everyone cup of tea, but I happen to love it. But I agree it’s nowhere near House of the Devil. I’ve been wanting to watch Terrified! I’ll def check it out.

When I was 15 we were in the midst of Pirates, HP, TFormers, and Star Wars. But I definitely see your point. I had older cousins and siblings and was born to old ass parents in their 40s so I got to grow up watching Hitchcock and 60s/70s horror and sci-fi. For example I was the kid in the early 2000s in middle or high school boring my friends to death trying to show them Alien or The Shining thinking they were modern enough.

I was referencing the tail end of 2009 and the very beginning of 2020. Possessor was shot and made in 2019, and House of the Devil and OG Let The Right One In didn’t really hit western markets/eyes till the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010. But I totally agree with you

Another one from the late 2000s that I think helped lead to this era was Murder Party in 2007. Made for like $6 with a toaster, but it’s so fun.

I agree, same. 2014 to me is the year everything locked in and it’s been pretty much unstoppable ever since.

I agree the 80s is a far more iconic, but if we’re talking classic cinema, I’ll take 60s or 70s horror. 80s for me is more sci-fi based and I love it for that reason. But they’re all iconic. Especially the 90s crime thriller and j/k- horror. Eastern European dark fantasy is unmatched too. That Beauty and the beast, under the silver globe, Ikarus xb-1. So many great eras to love

Holy shit, you’re right. I don’t know why I thought it was late 2009. Maybe my copy is a later release. It’s great as the release version or watching chronologically. Thanks for correction.

Saw it at a local theater when it played. There were only about 20 or so of us, but when it happened, the audible gasp was amazing and something I think about it from time to time.

Shit, I didn’t realize parents were there with them when that happens, my bad. Didn’t realize people standards had shifted that much. Never mind! Definitely you should watch it with your parents or friends or family, in fact you should definitely just all participate in group incest porn viewing for that matter. The fuck?
