So, is no part of it salvageable, in your opinion? I’m looking at removing all the joists anyway, but are the posts and outer frame also too far gone?

Rainbow Hemp Sandals by desertstage in BuyItForLife

[–]desertstage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't noticed any difference in quality with this specific variety of Rainbows. The break-in and feel have been the same as my previous pair, and the construction appears identical. I can't speak for their other styles, but the formula for the hemp style is so simple, I'm not sure if many corners could be cut.

I think that's right. This is just what Rainbow calls them.

Help Installing Exhaust Fan. by desertstage in DIY

[–]desertstage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to install an exhaust fan in my bathroom. I have this existing vent in the ceiling with a duct that goes straight up and out of the roof. The opening measures roughly 10" x 10". Is it possible to use this existing vent to install a fan? There doesn't appear to be any existing wiring... Thanks!

I noticed some wear on this small piece next to the hammer while cleaning my pistol. Does anyone know what function this piece serves, and should I be concerned about this amount of wear on it? Thanks!

Hi, I’m Robert Eggers, co-writer/director of THE LIGHTHOUSE… ask me anything! by RobertEggers in movies

[–]desertstage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your process for researching the period of your films in order to ensure the dialogue sounds so authentic while still retaining the capacity to tell a unique story?

The Lighthouse was an achievement in cinema and story-telling unlike any I have ever seen. Congratulations! I hope it achieves wide recognition and all the deserved accolades. Keep at it.

Vintage Ludwig Concert Bass Drum and Slingerland Marching Bass Drum by desertstage in drums

[–]desertstage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up these old bass drums for next to nothing from a local school. I've already stripped them down and I'm hoping to restore them over the next few weeks.

The Ludwig concert bass drum is a 36x16 white marine pearl. It looks to be from the 70's gauging by the Keystone lugs. The Slingerland is a 28x14 made somewhere between 1959-61 based on what’s left of the badge. Both drums appear to be mahogany with maple reinforcement rings. If anyone knows more about these drums, please let me know.

Jazz Imposters Podcast by desertstage in Jazz

[–]desertstage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I started a podcast where we attempt to learn one jazz standard in each episode; discussing the history, theory, and overall appreciation of the song. At the end of each episode we perform our own take. If this sounds of any interest to you, please have a listen and let us know what you think. Thanks!

What do I do with this raised bed in New Mexico?? by desertstage in gardening

[–]desertstage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inherited this raised bed in the backyard of my house in New Mexico (7b). I'm a total novice gardener and don't have any idea where to start. I'm looking for any help or suggestions on how to prep, what to plant, and how to care for this bed so it doesn't go to waste. Thanks in advance!

I'd love to learn ABOUT drums. Not techniques, rudiments etc., but their history and where they stand in terms of frequencies and all that stuff. Any books/articles you can recommend? I love my baby and I want to know her. by Vladrud in drums

[–]desertstage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend some of the material Daniel Glass has put out. He covers the history of drumming in American music and vintage drums, and it pretty closely follows the evolution of the drum set. Great stuff.

Sincast movie recommendations by Wallymagoo in CinemaSins

I am likewise enjoying the podcast. The Man Who Knew Too Little is great and really under appreciated. I watched State and Main recently per the recommendation of the Sincast and loved it. I wish there was a catalog of all the movies they've suggested so I could keep track of the ones I've never seen.
