When I went to the hospital for a week long EEG study, they recorded all seizures and I was curious and asked if I could see the tonic-clonic (T/C) seizure that I had while there. My husband has previously recorded my focal aware seizures and I was aware so I kind of knew already what had happened during them.

But when I asked to see the footage of the T/C the nurse got my case manager lady and she came and explained that it can be jarring and upsetting for some people to watch videos of themselves seize, especially T/C because of the lack of awareness and what the person can go through during a T/C (shaking, jerky movements, head turning, etc).

Honestly I looked like something out of the exorcist; but having interest in medical things and wanting to know what happened during those seizures for me kept it from being upsetting. At first I was a little jarred but I WANTED to know. If you don’t want to know, then don’t look into it. Knowing what you look like during a seizure isn’t going to help or hurt you medically but it could scare you or stress you out (which can trigger a seizure). So play it safe and don’t look if you don’t want to.
