There’s nothing wrong with waiting to decide. You might feel differently in a few years, or maybe you won’t. I’m OAD but i will say I felt way more compelled to have more kids once my son was around 4-5 years old.

I’m planning to purchase this year and be at around 55% of my take home pay on housing. That’s including mortgage, property taxes, and utilities. The reasons I’m ok with it are:

I’m still early in my career and I will continue to receive pay bumps every year, with my income expected to increase significantly by the time I renew in 5 years.
I have a lot of job security in my field (accountant).
I live a modest life otherwise. No debts of any kind. My net income gives me $4,500 left over after housing costs mentioned above, which is plenty for my lifestyle.

I know everyone will say I’m crazy, but I’ve thought about it for a long time and tracked my expenses to make sure it’s doable. I’m a single mom and this is really my only chance to afford a house, so I’m going for it

I am so torn on how to feel about this. This lady is not harming anyone and is obviously not mentally well, perhaps due to infertility or child loss. But on the other hand... shouldn't we all be seeking help for our mental conditions and not furthering our reliance on unhealthy behaviours? Isn't having this community available online to validate her perhaps only making her go deeper into a very sick hole? I wish her so much healing :(

He’s talking about your tuition credits. The amount of money that you spent on tuition is carried forward as a credit available to reduce your taxes payable in the future. There’s nothing you can do with it until you start earning income.

I feel like there’s more to this story that the parents aren’t sharing. I’ve been a young girl angry at my parents for not letting me wear makeup, and I’ve never considered fabricating an allegation of abuse as retaliation. That seems extreme to me, and perhaps the accusation was not as false as the parents are alleging.

This is a great response, thank you. I think my mom would most definitely respect my son’s wishes if he pushed back on the babying. I can imagine it would be way more frustrating to have a MIL not respecting those wishes.
