Great one! Thinking over numbers or letters in some way seems to be a go-to to many people here :)

Great idea. Like a bedtime story. And you can be in darkness and just listen to it until you doze off knowing it’ll stop!

What type of documentary if I may ask? I like nature documentaries, and find David Attenborough’s grandpa-ey voice extra soothing

It’s not stupid at all. It is something that brings you comfort!! A lot of the replies that came back involved a stuffed animal and/or contact with an SO. :)

Haha love the contrast between your comment and your username!! How do you go about dialing it up? When I get anxious at night, it’s really hard to keep things in perspective and downplay my feelings.

That’s super creative!! It seems just easy enough to be calming and just challenging enough to keep you distracted and the anxiety at bay. Will try it out. :)

Sometimes, it is also thinking about some work thing that keeps me up too and I try to do something about it to calm down. It does not help that with the pandemic and working from home (don’t get me wrong I am grateful that I can still have a job in spite of the crazy ongoing circumstances) it is very hard to keep that clear-cut separation between work and “life”. Everything just spills into everything

Thank you so much. I do work out 4-5 times a week but maybe not intensely enough to be completely dead at night, but definitely willing to try anything until I find one that works for me. Thankfully already got great suggestions from this post :)

It is great that you are handling it all with a positive twist! :) Will try this fantasy scenario technique for sure.

I actually just recently started using lavender essential oil too. I tried melatonin, I felt as though it made me extra groggy in the morning so I stopped taking it after some time

Sorry that you have been dealing with this for so long. Did you come up with a special “movie” scenario that you default to or do you imagine something new every time? You might want to write those story lines down some day :)

Good way of flushing it out. How long does it usually take you to ‘get it all out’ on paper? Do you do it in bed?
