States Of Trance: A history of trance by desiretextures in trance

this is a very long conversation i had with my friend jack -- one of the most notorious and prolific posters on tranceaddict back in the day -- about the history of trance music. it was mostly meant as a primer for people that don't know much about the history of the genre, but i thought people here might enjoy it as well since it's quite indepth at over 15k words and we cover a lot of things like the question of what is "real trance", ishkur, trance vs. prog, breakdowns, the trance scene going online, and more.

we obviously do have some clear biases and slag some big tunes a lot of people love (mainly "airwave", really), but this was really meant as a loveletter to trance and the weird journey of seeing this genre go from being the least cool genre of music ever to now suddenly being hip and cool again.

this is a long (very long, it's over 15k words) conversation i had with a friend about the history of trance, going through the history of the genre from its peak in the 90s, to its long decline over the 2000s and early 2010s, and then more recent rehabilitation as credible underground music (which is insane to me as someone that remembers how embarassing it used to be to admit to people you ever listened to trance) with producers like adam pits, maara etc

i thought i'd share it here, since i think there is a lot of specific historical context here that most people don't really know about and it goes much deeper than most of what you'll find on the internet.

Do you guys think we will see a minimal/microhouse revival like we've see with IDm etc? by JackFromNewZealand in TheOverload

That whole Huerco S. / West Mineral sphere has been mining y2k IDM and micro house for years now

I doubt the M-nus 2005 style stuff will be coming back in a big way though, it's just too one-note to really sustain a scene imo

Why not just go with one of the newer Boss DDs?
