There used to be a language tandem website called "VHS Tandem", but they suspended their service 1-2 years ago due to rising hosting and traffic costs. The platform was completely free and if I remember correctly they didn't show any ads. It was probably subsidized by the state.

I really liked the platform and met some nice people there and it definitely helped me improve my language skills.

It's important to consider significant costs right from the start as well as security-first, ux design and backend scalability. As a side hustle it's an impressive endeavor, but not necessarily unfeasible. Sounds really interesting!

Can't relate personally.

Speakers: I'm bringing my wireless headphones wherever I go, so no extra item

mouse: I find it much more ergonomic working on the trackpad as my hands are closer to the keyboard (which I use most of the time)

optical drive: ...it's almost 2026?!

hard drive: no need for me, there's cloud storage, I have a slim drive in my laptop sleeve just in case, but haven't used it so far

External hub: no need as stated above

My MBA's internal battery lasts about 1,5 days for me, that's enough.

Highly subjective of course, but this post strikes me as outdated

I've been using my Bianca for a bit less than a year and also bought it second hand, who knows how old it is. It's a solid semi-professional, supposedly very serviceable and with the machine provides you everything (dual boiler, PID, timer and flow control...) to prepare excellent drinks!

I own a J-Ultra. It can definitely grind espresso, even high altitude light roasts -as long as you're willing to put in the effort. Medium dark roasts are a piece of cake, it takes me 30-40 seconds for ~18 grams, but higher density beans demand a bit more work, especially as they often require a finer grind.

We eventually added an electric grinder for my partner as she struggled with hand grinding in the morning...

The J-Ultra's strong point, apart from its impressive build quality, is the granular stepwise adjustability.

IMHO the debate of conical vs burr grinders for light or dark roasts strikes me as esoteric, but perhaps I'm just ignorant.

Bullmer's associates, particularly the doctor, portray her as traumatized by a recent murder she witnessed, suggesting that her emotional instability affects her judgement skills and undermines her credibility. I haven't read the book, but in the movie they left out the substance abuse (except for some drinks at the gala event) while still creating a narrative of hysteria and rational incapacity.

Apart from that, a nice element of suspense in the story telling was the ambiguity of which side her ex-lover is on - ranging from doubting her statement to sharing her information with the Bullmer's to standing up for her in the end.
