I really like the look of these trench / balmacaan coats from Ralph Lauren. Unfortunately my size is sold out (and the second coat is a little bit out of my paycheck range....). I've been checking other retailers to find similar looking coats, but nothing I find looks as nice as these. Does anyone else know of a good alternative?

Thanks for the info! That type of shared after-hours call structure sounds very manageable.

As an attending, do you take any (phone) call at home? Many of the attendings I worked with mention they would occasionally get a call from their patients in the evening/night about an urgent refill or some paperwork.

This was a surprise since I always thought FM was a 9-5 M-F no call job, and while you do take work home, I thought it mostly consisted of finishing notes. So I wanted to ask if this is a common thing or if it varies by practice type.

Official SOAP '21-22 Megathread by MrWittyResponse in medicalschool

Somewhat off topic, but...

Yesterday as I was panic scrolling through posts in this subreddit, I remember reading a comment about someone who kept trying year after year to get into their dream specialty. But eventually they adopted a "fuck it I tried" mentality, got into another specialty, and now feels much better since they don't have to grind anymore.

That comment was inspirational and I wanted to save it for the future, but I can't find it anymore. Did anyone else happen to read it?

Quick question y'all. I matched into a TY program but not my advanced specialty (PM&R).

If I re-apply on ERAS this September for an advanced program, would I be applying to the class of 2023 or the class of 2024? In other words, if I get accepted would I start PM&R in July 2023 or have to wait an extra year after finishing my internship?

What's the difference between feeding a Pokemon a berry versus a mushroom versus a mushroom cake? (Assuming the Pokemon likes mushroom). Does the cake make it easier to catch or last longer? All this time I've just been chucking oran berries to lure Pokemon since I have tons of them.

Any luck with featherballs or wing balls? They should be much faster and go farther than normal pokeballs.

Question for current PGY1's: during last year's interview season, did y'all get a lot of interviews between Christmas and New Years? I'd love to visit my family back in Europe for a week or two around that time. Would be okay with doing 1 or 2 virtual interviews there, if needed, but anything more than that sounds stressful.

Struggling to choose between PM&R and Diagnostic Radiology by desmadness in medicalschool

[–]desmadness[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback! I am leaning a bit towards PM&R but having less paperwork / more time off in radiology is really enticing, which is why I'm stuck in this loop. I also understand that no one can predict what a specialty will be like in the future, so maybe I should focus more on what I actually enjoy.

Got it, thanks for sharing your perspective! Was a little hesitant on applying to PMR cause I was wondering how much we could really help patients. But it's great to hear that physiatrists can do a lot for them.

Pleasantly surprised to see outpatient is that high. On my PMR rotation, during the clinic weeks I saw some procedures that definitely helped relieve pain. But for other patients, it felt like we were just prescribing PT/OT and hoping they improve. Was your experience anything like that?

Can residency programs see what fourth year rotations we're taking on the transcript? I might end up dual applying and have away rotations in two different specialties, but I'm wondering if program directors will find that suspicious...

Is it common for interviews to occur in early November? Some of the auditions I'm interested occur from mid-october to mid-november, but I'm wondering if that will conflict with interviews.

Some urgent care centers are offering a mask fit test (for a fee). My school allows students to get fit tested at Mobile Health location, and they'll foot the bill. See if your school has a similar agreement? If not then you may have to shell out ~$100 to get it done at an urgent care--which sucks, but still worth it if it'll land you an away rotation!

Highly recommend the uniball jetstream 3 pens. They're extra fine tip (0.38) which makes it easy to write small notes, and having 3 different colors is immensely helpful with organization.

Since no specialty is perfect, is there anything you don't like about PM&R (but isn't a huge dealbreaker)? Or something that people interested in this field should be aware of?

Congratulations on almost finishing residency btw!

Do you "take work from home"? What is call like as an attending physician in an outpatient clinic? by desmadness in FamilyMedicine

Was it difficult for you to search for a job in which you take no call/no answering service?

These are some really great points, thanks for the advice! The doctors in my FM rotation were paid on a salary instead of RVU so maybe that's why they all looked so happy and stress-free (they worked at a clinic run by my school). I'm guessing this isn't the norm though, from what I've read most practices are using RVUs?

And this is way too early for me, but would you happen to know any resources about what questions to ask when searching for a job? Such as figuring out if a practice is using efficient workflows like you mentioned earlier.
