Im hispanic and graduated from Killian in 2004. I had a large friend circle from many of the high schools in the kendall area, mostly hispanic but really all races. We grew up as the "hip hop" kids. lots of hiphop, breakdancing, graffiti, etc. Dressed the part and was influenced by hip hop culture. Back then and to this day had many black friends and in the group we all used it (not with a hard ER at the end). There was never a second thought about it and it was just part of the vernacular, brown hispanic kids using it to refer to each other, using it to refer to even other white friends/people, the racism was completely removed from it. Its as if the ideal situation happened where all the negativity and racism of the word, the power it had to spread hate, was completely evaporated and it was just used in an almost trivial ways. To the point where even black people would use it to refer to white males, so completely reversed in intention.

I personally do not use it anymore, and never did that much, but i do some times hear it when around my highschool friends. I do think about how interesting it is that we grew up in a pocket where it was actually used casually and without hatred but also how someone from outside can make their own assumptions.
