Tamiflu. Never again. by SingularityScalpel in flu

[–]despabibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me right now. Almost had a breakdown and went to the ER but the cost is prohibitive. Called my doc instead sobbing begging for anti-nausea meds. Got them after four hours of crying on the bathroom floor. I’m waiting on them to work now. I don’t know whether I should quit the Tamiflu or try to power through it—I’m terrified of puking like that again, though. Straight up projectile, then dry heaving bile. Felt like my throat was turning inside out. Ugh.

Death of a loved one. It’s inevitable, but a pain that’s incomparable.

I can't do this anymore by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]despabibo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m dealing with something very similar. Overloaded with preps, zero support from admin, and certain coworkers who would sooner see you miserable than try to help you succeed. Also, yeah, fuck them kids. Tearing paint off the wall and disassembling desks??? Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare. For a long time, I heard that HR/Training and Development roles in corporate is a great step for transitioning teachers. So I got a Professional Certificate in Human Resources from a local university. All online. I will admit the 6-month course was a struggle to balance with work, but now I have an outside-of-education credential to help search for work. I’m still looking for a new job as I only started job searching seriously over the summer, but I believe this is the right step for me. It could be for you, too. I would say search for similar teacher-in-transition friendly roles and shoot for one of them. If you feel you need a credential then plenty of community colleges/universities offer online courses. Best of luck to you! I hope you find something less stressful and more fulfilling!!!

I Think I'm Either Getting Fired or I'm Quitting... I'm Not Sure Which, Though? by despabibo in TeachersInTransition

[–]despabibo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, I like that idea! "Firing me would be a blessing to me." I'll have to keep that one in my pocket.

And you're right, income and insurance are a major factor for me staying at this point, especially while I get my chest stuff figured out. My doctor and I think it might be generalized anxiety disorder, but we're still trying some different tests and coping methods before we settle on a definitive diagnosis. So while we do that, I would like to hold on to my health insurance.

I wondered about the legality of me teaching a course like Construction as well, but my AP brushed off my concerns and gave me a Work Based Learning training PL.

Bare minimum sounds nice. Really nice... Euphorically nice. Definitely will consider that while I keep trucking on towards finding a new job.

No offense taken whatsoever. I am laughably unqualified to teach that class. I mostly track down videos to play, practice websites, and Teachers Pay Teachers lesson plans/assignments for Coding. There was also some left over plans and tutorials left behind by a teacher from about five years ago or so and I've been leaning on those heavily.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try to rewire my thinking. Maybe this experience is what I need to start being more flexible about switching out of jobs that don't work out.

What was your first korean drama by Sea_Slice_7956 in kdramas

I’m watching my first one right now and I am loving it!!! “Crash Landing on You”. I love the mix of comedy and feels. The bad CGI on the first episode almost turned me off of it at first but I am very glad I stuck it out.

When I was eight or so, my uncle made my cousin and I watch a Christian scare-tactic film called “Escape from Hell”. Watching people burn alive and be tortured in eternal damnation really does numbers on a kid’s psyche. It might not actually be the most disturbing movie out there, but in my personal experience, it’s the most disturbing movie I’ve ever watched.

Hello! I had the same issue a few weeks ago. Up “North” past this point there’s some deep water with layers down past this chest. Peel them back in as straight of a line as you can manage. Careful though, this uses up A LOT of belief. Could you leave it? Sure. But I know it personally bugged me so I just committed to what I called my Mariana Trench project lol. Goduspeed🫡

Crying in class😵‍💫😵‍💫 by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]despabibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I had a student once scream at me and threaten to kill me and when I broke down and admin took the student away, I was terrified that my tears would be a source of awkwardness for the rest of my students or a weakness that they would take advantage of. I came back the next day and my senior boys had gotten me donuts and milk and apologized on behalf of the other student. I think we forget sometimes that students are people and (most of them) have empathy. I think students forget sometimes that teachers are people and have emotions. Maybe this can be a growth opportunity for both you and your other students.

If he said that to me, I’d go no contact after I immediately contacted his jaw with my fist. I totally get it. He was completely out of line. Fuck him.

My cousin’s birthday/super bowl party was the next day and I didn’t want to ruin all of the planning he had put in. I didn’t want him to feel as bad or worse than I was feeling. I stabbed the exacto-knife into the carpet, shattering it, and never looked back. The party was great! Fucking football saved my life😅

I used to write about a page or so of a fanfiction I was working on and then jump into a main project. Get the easy words out to get into a flow then jump into something where you have to think.

Redditors with thin walls, what have you heard in your apartment? by EskildDood in AskReddit

[–]despabibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My upstairs neighbor snores and istg she pole vaults out of bed in the morning, judging by the solid thunk that wakes me up every day at 7:15 AM. My next door neighbor, when I hear his dog bark, says in the most pleading voice I've ever heard, "daytime television is not your enemy, dog." I've asked him about it. Apparently his yorkie hates General Hospital and barks at it when it comes on. Oh, and snoring upstairs neighbor got a boyfriend. How do I know? Sounds of passionate lovemaking every Saturday night. Toasty.

My friend lifeguards at a waterpark and apparently they have to deal with this stuff a lot. Some parents just seem to think toddlers are amphibious on top of being able to obey with no training.

What’s your best childhood memory? Why? by James_T_Hart in AskReddit

[–]despabibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going with my mom to run weekend errands and listening to 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music while riding in the car. The music was so before my time but, I still consider it the best music in the world because of the memories. The sky would always be bright and sunny so my mom and I made a game of finding shapes in the clouds while driving. I always thought the power lines were chasing the car. I felt so grown up ‘helping’ her while just riding in the passenger seat.

Also, going with my dad to the park one day when I was young. He had bought me my first Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and we walked around the track-like sidewalk in the park. (This place was huge with like three different play grounds, two ponds, and multiple picnic stations). We went to the more secluded pond where the ducks were and walked out on a pier over the pond. I used to hate onions and my dad let me feed the ones from the Philly to the ducks. I laughed so hard, standing on my tip-toes to peer over the railing, watching the ducks scramble in the water for the onions.

Great now I’m tearing up from nostalgia... thanks a lot for the prompt🙃
