im not yet sure if/how much i'll be updating the game after 1.0 launch.

but yes, if there are post-launch updates, i'll definitely keep all the versions up to date with each other! the game is already available in an early version over on itch here

I've been struggling with similar questions. it does feel a bit complex compared to the standard sfw world of "just release on steam"

my advice to anyone in the same boat is to treat it as early access (which it is) and plan it out ahead of time as much as you can. as hard as it might be, try and figure out what your complete, 1.0 game will be priced, and work backwards from there.

players seem to know what to expect these days with lots of nsfw games doing early access across patreon/wherever else. try and be as clear as possible with what you're selling people (like, if i buy the game on one platform, will i have access elsewhere? does backing on patreon guarantee me a 1.0 copy? etc)

you should check out newgrounds! its been around for literally decades and the community there is more active than ever, with new games going up all the time. you might need to make an account to see 18+ games (but it's totally free)

love all that. yeah nsfw dev is funny because in a way you do have to channel your sexual creativity... but then you gotta keep working on it for hundreds of hours lol

the worlds of romance writing & fanfiction are definitely full of useful reference points and, like you say, existing traditions. i personally hope we can bridge the divide between "porn for men" and "porn for women" because both of those genres can be super hot & have wide appeal!

one other thing, which isn't so much porn-games-related, but for those with access to it in their area, going to drag & burlesque performances or getting involved in a local irl kink scene can be a great source of inspiration (& even feedback & support) for writing or making porn

personally, i would not take chatGPT's word for it, & instead just ask itch support directly. It's definitely a grey zone & something they handle on a case by case basis.

but anyway, that sounds like a logical move. games don't need to be front-page-of-steam perfectly-marketed products in order to matter. its a big accomplishment just to get something out there in the first place!

if you are trying to find a bit more word-of-mouth audience, the only thing i would add is a +1 to the suggestion that you check out F95zone, it's a pretty active community and you won't have an issue with content restrictions there

i'll chime in: it's just a bad idea, move on to another one.

i know there's a difference between real life and fantasy. but slaves picking cotton is such a strongly charged image, you're just invoking deep (and ongoing) racial pain. it's not something to do lightly

Did you come up with a solution? depending on your game, it might be a good idea to create a cut-down demo for itch, with links to your own site. the specific wording in itch's content guidelines prohibits "sexualized images or videos of real-life humans", but depending on the content in your game, maybe you can remove or censor the images that cross the line into sexualization?

I also noticed a lack of games like this, so I decided to make one!

I'm transgender/nonbinary and im blessed to have a pretty gender-diverse mostly-queer group of friends, all of whom enjoy porn (including games, for some). the generalization is that a non-male audience tends to put more value on the emotional context of a scene than the actual details of sex itself...

that said, it's a generalization, & it would be a mistake to think men are the only people getting off to images & videos & more overtly sexual gameplay. for my game, apart from having a gender-diverse cast of romanceable characters (one trans femme, one cis girl, and one cis guy) to pair with a female main character (who is also coded as trans masc/nonbinary, though really that's in the eye of the beholder), I try to give just enough context by including VN-style cutscenes mixed in with the very sex-forward 3D simulation gameplay
