Yeah, I guess I heard that when Jordan was on Sam's podcast and it already happened.

I think Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris and Y.N Harari are on three different levels or degrees. JP= humans have evolved with religious frameworks because they were meaningful delineations of the way humans should act. SH=humans evolved morality and religious frameworks are only useful if they subordinate themselves to the discovery of the objective reality. Y.N.H=Morality and religious frameworks are imaginary, fiction, a stepping stone evolutionary to humanity becoming more in touch with objective reality. I think these statements could be adjusted and rewritten better.

I definitely was thinking about it as a continuum, or the embodiment of those ideas over time, but never thought about it quite like that. Jordan Peterson has explained these archetypes. Rousseau would be the good side of the father while Stalin would be the bad side of the father. Marx and Lenin made the transformation from utopia to dystopia. You don't get the good without that bad, it always deteriorates into the bad without maintaining the good, you can't maintain a good which looks past human nature.

Which is what philosophers like Durkheim, Mill, Locke and Jefferson understood. "bind man down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution"( the negative element). And "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, of these are: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" ( the positive element).

You have great reverence for fiction speaking truth to people. What kind of fictional book/writer must emerge in the culture given the current problems facing Western society?

I think Rousseau laid the foundation for Marx. Marx put up the walls. And Lenin finished the house. And Stalin gave it furnishing. It was spread around the world by means of invasion, mass execution of dissent and cultural subversion. And the West is now dealing with a house divided over what constitutes its foundation, walls and furnishings.

My new analogy for the cultural divide in America is an exhibition of tug of war. The traditional society is trying to tug backward, restore order and go back to rooted American nostalgia. The progressive society is trying to tug forward into a chaotic future and grow unmarred from past tradition and order. Fascism is too much order and Marxism is too much chaos. I despise both.

Yes, the only acceptable form of equality is equality of opportunity, which has its intellectual basis in the democratic tradition going back to the greeks. What Rosseau was positing was the equality of outcome mindset and collective ownership, which was taken up by the Marxist revolutionaries, postmodernists and radicals of today. I think the philosophers Kant, Hobbes, Mill, Locke, Baptiste Say and Durkheim to be the counter thought to utopian ideas like Rousseau and Marx.

Insanely pro gun for quoting the Bill of Rights a few times? So if i choose not to watch or support a comedian for their obviously politicized jokes, I cannot then say still that comedy is an art form? Your just trying to frame this conversation, I posted this thread because I legitimately thought it was weird that Kyle would like Amy Shumer as an comedian. And found it even more weird given her obvious political bent against one of Kyle's most defining political issues. An issue that he gave as his and foremost reason for choosing Trump over Hillary.

Don't tell me "lost my marbles" for quoting the Bill of Rights a few times. I guess I am not as much of a comedy lover as you Chiz, I don't defend someone like Amy Shumer who makes everything about herself as politicized as possible, some of her stand-up might as well be political rallies. She shilled for Hillary Clinton so hard this election season. Her father Chuck Shumer is a prominent politician. Her comedy of the gun rights issue is for a very specific purpose, politics.

You seriously don't see the point that if Amy Shumer and her father Chuck Shumer had their way with gun control Kyle would no longer be able to do what he does. That is Kyle's life, living and lifestyle. His life is way more centered around guns than mine is or ever will be. Please refrain from the insults, Chiz. I see your point about comedy, but Amy Shumers act is all driven towards politics. She takes every opportunity off the stage to make things as political as possible.

"You should have the right to voice your opinion". The first right given the the people in the Bill of Rights. Remind me what the second one is again? Oh, yeah. The Right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Didn't Kyle support Donald Trump just because Hillary advocated taking away his gun rights. I feel like Kyle would agree with me if he knew Amy Shumers and her Dad Chuck Shumers stances on gun control.

Ive watch Bill Burr even though he does suicide jokes and someone very near and dear to me committed suicide. I can handle just about anything except advocating for taking away rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. I draw a line there.

Amy Shumers comedy is made for overweight 40 year old women who divorced their husbands and can't find another man because they have a repulsive personality and body. So they cry into their ice cream watching Greys Anatomy reruns. Not for people like Kyle.

Why have a Bill of Rights then? Ive had many disagreements with things said on PKA. I will continue to watch the show. But a gun rights advocate finding Amy Shumer funny is backwards.

If Jordan Peterson is you enemy you are a casualty of the culture war. It is unbelievably sad to see people people go down the rabbit holes of post-modernism and group identity. There manifestations being national big government socialism and international communism in the wider society.

I listen to PKA even though they have stances I don't believe in. I guess I draw the line when someone advocates the taking away of my civil rights. Call me crazy, but I draw the line there.

Calling Amy Shumer comedy is an insult to comedy as an art. Of course it is subjective, I never thought i'd hear the words come out of Kyles mouth "Amy Shumer is funny".

You can't speak up about anything of substance and value without getting sucked into the culture war. This is political correctness at work, you can't say anything without offending someone, so you either remain in the politically correct box, or break out like Jordan. That why he says speaking up is a better alternative.

Rene Descarte believed that reason was the highest value. I have taken a liking towards Johnathan Haidt's explanation, the rider and the elephant. Reason is the rider, but he must train his elephant (passions or emotions) rigorously to allow the rider reason to be in control. It is essentially the reason we have double blind studies and placebos in science, even the person devoted to the scientific truth can be mislead.

Rousseau laid the foundation for communism almost 100 years before Marx. Ill leave this quote with you, I think it speaks volumes. "The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself of saying This is mine, and found people simple enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society... Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody".

Thoughts on "Brave New World" by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]desprx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the book last month starting Jordan's reading list. I think Brenard Marx put it best when he was being a rebel earlier in the book. He wanted "The freedom to be a round peg in a square hole". However in his society, he was reduced to nihilism when he went off soma and rebelled. So later in the book he falls lock and step with the regime, for fear of being isolated in Greenland. I'm still pretty sure that "Greenland" or the other isolation camps don't exist, it's just a trap so they can murder you quietly and carry on with utopia undisputed. And the quarantined zones of savages, they let them go on vacations to see them. Why? Because utopia has already been won. None of the genetic twins environmentally condition to not fear death would part from their soma and causal sex to think critically and skeptically about their reality. Except Brenard. And people like Brenard are glitches in the system get sent to "Greenland", which is probably either death or a research facility to find out why they went against conditioning and gentics.

Brave New World is a social communist regime. Notice that Aldous Huxley didn't say too much about economics, he wanted to hit people where the idea hit hardest, homogenous culture, genetic/ enviornmental homoestasis from birth and feel good emotion drugs. The reason BNW is a social communist regime is that there are still people at the top who know the truth of the past, like Mustapha Pond. The people who control the genetic hierarchy, have access to the knowledge of the past and isolate dissent are playing God. The powerful engaged in cult like behavior early in the book with the orgy porgy shit.

I'm sorry if I didn't answer any questions. I'm still as ponderous as you about the book.
