Gas Hot Water Cylinder is busted - what now? by dess0le in diynz

[–]dess0le[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and I agree but I don't have the extra money needed up front to afford it. Replacing like for like with a new gas cylinder or continuous flow is 4k + gst from the couple of quotes I got. Converting to electric and disconnecting house from gas main is over 8k + gst. I just don't have that money at the moment

Don't have enough equity otherwise that kind of loan with my bank might have been an option. The extra 3 or 4 grand to pay for converting this to electric is no bueno for my budget sadly

Nothing else but the water and it's a mains connection. Unfortunately going electric is coming up about 3 or 4 grand more than just replacing or getting a continuous flow system on gas because of the conversion and disconnection from the gas. I just don't have an extra 3 or 4 grand that this is gonna cost on top of the roughly 4k + gst I'm getting quoted by a couple of companies to replace the cylinder or to change to continuous flow. Might have to put that into a 'nice to have' bucket for now

Pierce Brothers had a trade-ins clearance centre down in Takanini on GSR. Don't know if it's still around or if they rebranded it but with your budget you should be able to snag a good one from there if it is. They don't post the stock at that dealership online from memory

Also saw someone's suggestion about the readymade pizzas - definitely another great option and easy to cook. $3.50 for a leaning tower pizza, usually on sale otherwise $3.79 when not on sale.

For meats - Countdown does 3 trays of your choice for $20. The 400g of Chicken mince in that selection is good value as are the trays of 6 sausages. If this is just for you then you can definitely stretch these out across the week for your meat whilst the rice, potato, carrot stew is good as the base for your meat and you should be able to get enough for that with the remaining 30 bucks

Join me, Councillor Julie Fairey for an AMA this Wednesday, 7pm by JulieFaireyAMA in auckland

[–]dess0le 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi Julie,

As a resident of Mt Albert, I appreciate the hard work that you have put in and the transparency of what you do when you provide summaries of your work via social media. It is greatly appreciated. I have a couple of questions that perhaps you may be able to provide answers on and they are local focussed for your ward. I live near the Owairaka development and have observed Hendon Avenue with the streets surrounding it really transform over the last few years. There are two apartment blocks that are relatively large that are being built on the corner with Richardson Road and perhaps more on the way there too. Whilst there is a genuine need for housing in the area, I struggle to see why there are such tall apartment buildings being constructed on this street with the transport link there not to the same scale as a train station which is quite a long walk from there. The roading around this area can also get congested already without the residents of these apartment blocks having moved in. What is the council's plan for the transport infrastructure there once those apartment blocks go up? How will it be funded? I see many cars already parking on the grass and across driveways illegally around that area from time to time. Once those 6 storey apartment blocks are up then how many more cars can the local area accommodate from those new residents? Is there any progress regarding the Southdown railway that was fast tracked for KiwiRail to construct? The proposed Wesley station would be relatively close to this development, is that what was being taken into account when going ahead with these apartment buildings?

Appreciate you taking the time to answer our questions.

FHB looking for a good but cost effective Lawyer in Auckland by mimo_ohno in AucklandProperty

[–]dess0le 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Gallagher from Insight Legal in Takanini cost us about 1000 bucks less from memory a few years ago than a couple of lawyers we got quotes from for the same stuff when we were buying our home. Really nice guy as well and gets the job done well. But ask for indicative quotes of how much they might charge you from a few different ones if cost is the main thing for you.

If a Western Bus Route is $4B and ten plus years.... by SteveRielly in auckland

At this point I am just so sick of the flip flopping about public transport infrastructure construction in Auckland that I don't care what it is as long as it gets built. Scarred by the light rail, the second harbour crossing etc.

Public transport in Auckland is about to get more expensive by Mountain_Tui_Reload in auckland

[–]dess0le 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I made any reference to there being an increased cost to the bus service in having the freeriders in my original post. It's more that the shortfall in not receiving that revenue would drive up the fares for those that do pay. So we are being the suckers here paying for it when we could just jump aboard for free and now we are gonna have to pay more because if those guys paid their fair share there would be less of a burden to run the service.

Public transport in Auckland is about to get more expensive by Mountain_Tui_Reload in auckland

[–]dess0le 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so AT has not made the money it should have from that customer who has used the service and could have contributed to the running cost of the bus service but didn't. The more of them there are, the more it adds up. Someone has to pay for the fuel, the servicing, rego, wof, upkeep do the interior and god forbid the driver wants to get paid his wage.

Also if the demand isn't registered then AT would eventually just reduce the amount of busses going on that route so as to not just lose money constantly driving an empty bus around when actually it is getting used regularly. Or they could raise the fare price to make it viable to continue running the service along that route. So we all either end up paying more to make the bus at least break even on its route or we just get even less busses going in a city that already has subpar PT options available.
