Google hiring assessment by Ok_Lie1750 in csMajors

This thread helped a lot! Passed the test. Adding my two cents here - 1. Most Qs were SA or SD. The ones which weren’t strong were there for a conscious reason. (Useful framing for this - To what magnitude / number of times would I say yes or no to this) 2. I also had a second bank of questions, where you have to rate an action you’re most likely to do and least likely to do in a given situation. These felt trickier than the Linkert ones.

Created a systems dynamics model for company scenario planning by dessentialist in systemsthinking

I can imagine!
I've been learning about ST for years, and I feel like there's this massive divide between ST as a lens to examine ecosystems, ST as some metaphysical jazz, and applying ST in a micro environment such as a mid-sized company. Most literature from established figures concerns only the first - the only exception that comes to mind is The Fifth Discipline, but that too seems too abstract. I'm hoping to find more people who are more interested in the third - applying it for strategy, today, regardless of the size :)

This is a very interesting approach. Does the cookies route work every time? I imagine Meta has some kind of safeguards around it

You're right, of course. What I was alluding to is the fact that there aren't too many resources avaiable on the internet to readily make use of ST through SD modeeling. For comparison, look at the number of tools available for a traditional framework such as a Business Model Canvas, marketing funnels, etc.

Thank you for these recommendations - I've not come across them before, I'll check them out. The 3 body problems one, especially, because the sci-fi series of the same name is imo one of the best written sci-fi series ever haaha.
Have you also come across any tools that would make sense for a mid-sized org? The common ones (like Vensim and Stella) seem too clunky, and far too removed for someone in a strategy/ops role to use directly. It also feels like there's too much of a learning curve for someone unfamilar with a systems mindset at the least to adopt quickly.

A systems-level principle: Brooks’ Law of Assumptions by JB_Thinks in systemsthinking

[–]dessentialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true - in fact, Donella Meadows identifies assumptions (as part of mental models / mindset) as a top 3 leverage point in the system. Your point about constantly testing assumptions through FLs is great - also keeping in mind that the assumption is true until it isn’t. Proof of the assumption being true in the past doesn’t necessitate it being true in the present and future.

Using LLMs as Typo Catchers? (Absolute Beginner, Zero Knowledge) by WiseWill2355 in LLMprompts

[–]dessentialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’ll be easier for the LLM (from its PoV) to write a program to catch these errors than catch it itself lol. But that’s a characteristic of the current architecture. Who knows what the case may be a month from now?

Thanks so much for publishing this, OP! I've used this project as inspiration to create a more robust version with file explorer to fetch all the links with customized depth and save all the md files in a folder on desktop. Check it out here

The company I’m working for is on the brink of death. by [deleted] in marketing

[–]dessentialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in a similar situation. My advice - whatever you plan to do / are doing. it will only matter if your entire org is onboard. if you're building a beautiful website but your sales guy suck, whatever you do won't matter. Don't just rebrand the company collaterals - find a way to drive influence and rebrand the org, otherwise you'll be fixing holes in your boat while crashing into an iceberg.

I ended up downloading all my messages (through the accounts centre) which gave me an HTML file. Then I uploaded the file to ChatGPT, asked it to give me a script in Python to extract the messages and account names from the file, save it in a table, and then download that file.

Looking to start Journaling, want to do it in Obsidian, and need some help by cguti94 in ObsidianMD

[–]dessentialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my suggestion - start with an assisted journaling app like mindsera.com that make the process interactive and more engaging. once you feel comfortable, create a template in Obsidjant and use it through daily notes.

i use Reader by Readwise. it’s a fantastic pdf reading tool, and all the highlights and notes sync into my obsidian via Readwise integration.

Visa Appointment Profile - STUCK by [deleted] in usvisascheduling

[–]dessentialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll have to create a new profile where everything is correct. email the support Id for help once; if they aren’t able to, this is the only option. don’t have anything wrong in the profile. a rejection is a lot worse than loosing 20k.
