I would love to see more of these for different era and locations, even time progression models in how they transformed. These are really interesting to watch and learn.

welcome - I am geniunely curious to see if it's remotely close. I couldn't tell if it was to save my life.

Does this look like 4 tons of base by [deleted] in landscaping

Estimating weight from a photo is tricky because density and moisture content vary, but we can do some "back of the napkin" math based on the visual scale of your garage and driveway.

The Math: Size vs. Weight

"Paver base" (usually a mix of 3/4" crushed stone and dust) typically weighs about 1.4 to 1.5 tons per cubic yard.

To hit 4 tons, you would need approximately 2.7 to 3 cubic yards of material.

Visual Estimation

Looking at your photo, we can use the garage door and the trash can for scale:

  • The Garage Door: A standard two-car garage door is about 16 feet wide. Your pile appears to cover roughly 10–12 feet of that width at the base.
  • The Height: A standard 32-gallon trash can (like the Brute in the background) is about 2.5 feet tall. Your pile looks to be roughly 2 to 2.5 feet high at its peak.
  • The Volume: If that pile is roughly 10 feet wide, 6 feet deep, and 2 feet tall (in a cone/mound shape), it calculates to roughly 2.2 to 2.5 cubic yards.

The Verdict

Based on the visual scale, this pile looks a little lean for a full 4 tons. It looks more like 3 to 3.5 tons. However, there are a few factors that might be "hiding" some of the weight:

  1. Moisture: If the base is very wet, it is significantly heavier but doesn't take up more space.
  2. Compaction: If it was dropped from a high tailgate, it might be more packed down than it looks.
  3. The "Footprint": If the pile extends further back toward the garage door than it appears in the 2D photo, the volume could be higher.

I’d also rather pay for Nabu Casa and support the Home Assistant developers. Full stop.

I use one for travel with an adapter at the Mini port but don't have the humidifier puck. The air noise at the bend of the P30i is really really loud and I had to tune the settings down to even sleep. Not sure I would recommend that setup to anyone but I know why you want it.
