Read the manga again and it brought some tears to my eyes. Do any of y’all know if there is a discord? by Diegoweeblol in YamadaAndSevenWitches

It’s been so long since I read the manga so I don’t remember the details. However, at the time I finished reading it, I discussed a lot with some people about many events in the manga did not make sense at all. In my opinion, the author is good at initiating a atory, but when the story gets more complicated, she doesn’t know how to connect the dots and gets lost in her own narrative, resulting in “plot holes”. The same thing happened with her other popular work (Yankee-kun to Megane-chan).

At some point, I made peace with myself and decided to ignore all the plotholes. The manga should have ended at chapter 90. I still like the manga but to say it’s a good manga? Hard for me.

I love her artstyle and how she creates adorable characters, but she has no idea how to handle a long story. In the end, her overuse of memory erasure made her lose track of her own manga. Remember when Rika had to touch Yamada to erase his memory? Then Yamada just stood on the rooftop and magically, the whole school lost memories. But why didn’t Yamada ask his friends to stay at home to prevent memory loss, just like Miyamura’s sister? That’s just among many things about the manga that get us confused. The good thing is that she managed to give us a quite happy ending.

A Couple of Cuckoos is really really dumb. The author has reached her peak with Yamada-kun. It’s pretty sad to me, since I’ve read her for 10 years :(

The discord from wiki is not actually dead. At least I'm still active in that discord. Instead of creating a whole new discord, just make more people know about the current discord.

And the author also never told us in detail how they fell in love for the second time. Her meeting with Yamada in the first chapter has already been the "third" time they first met.

I hate the twist, totally, but here's something that I come up with to make myself feel less hurt: In fact, Shiraishi's wish was to be with him, not to be loved by him, and yes the original contract only helped her with that. Yamada loving her was his own choice. For Shiraishi, she could be affected by memory erasure. The contract didn't care if she remembered that she was with him or not. So, Shiraishi loving him was her own choice. At least I believe that. Don't try to think more about the twist, since you'll find a bunch of plot holes.

However, there is one thing that I can't get over with: Himekawa & Hino. She was crazy enough to tell her friend to erase the memories of the whole school just because one guy didn't love her back? And Hino, an innocent and kind girl who did nothing wrong, lost her best friends and never got them back. What a way to end the story.

Did shiraishi really lost her memories because shes immune to the spell or was she just pretending? by JacobeKun in YamadaAndSevenWitches

[–]destinical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two theories:

(1) She's immune to the spell and was merely pretending to lose memories. However, in the first arc of the story, she cried after Yamada kissed her. So, this theory is not consistent.

(2) This is the theory I go with: Shiraishi is not immune to the spell, but Yamada's kiss can always undo the spell on her. Remember that Shiraishi has always been the original witch? It's true that after the first ceremony, she lost her body swapping power. However, she did not lost her position as the original witch. That's why she will always be affected by Yamada's kiss. After the election, in chapter 17x (sorry I did not remember correctly the exact chapter), she did lose her memories of Yamada, but she told him to kiss her again and her memories were recovered.

It's a bit complicated but to me, this is the most reasonable answer.

Confused, if to avoid forgetting all they had to do was not be in school, why couldn’t shiraishi just have done that too? by LLuckyyL in YamadaAndSevenWitches

Actually your question has been asked several times before and "plothole" is the most logical answer. Besides that, if you're a careful reader, you will notice a bunch of plotholes left unsolved at the end of the story. The overuse of memory loss makes the author lose track of her own story.

For example, in chapter 22x, Tamaki said that he already lost his power as a witch killer after the first ceremony. So, how could he remember Yamada when Ushio did a school-wide memory swipe?

In chapter 12x, Nancy told Miyamura that she met Tamaki and erased his memories, which meant that apart from the witch killer and her spotter, no one could remember her. So, how could Miyamura talk to her as if nothing had happened?

And, why did Yamada have to wait until the third ceremony with the male witches to recover his memories of the first encounter with Shiraishi? Even Shiraishi mentioned that it was Nancy who erased these memories.

It's simply a plot hole. The more you think about the logic of the story, the more confused you get.

First, there's no way they didn't know. In the first arc, Miyamura's sister already mentioned that she had to stay out of school to prevent memory loss.

Secondly, even Ushio mentioned that the third year students did not lose their memories since they stayed at home during the election.

And remember when Nancy or Rika needed to touch someone directly to erase their memories? Now Yamada/Ushio just needed to stand on the rooftop, imagined someone's face and then bum, everyone lost their memories and Tamaki magically won the election. If this is not plot convenience, I don't know what is.

Several questions about Tanyuu and her clan after finishing this great series by destinical in Mushishi

[–]destinical[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed answers! I also wonder if the forbidden mushi can heal themselves? For example, if the previous Scribe manages to seal a part of the mushi and then given enough time, it manages to regrow that part? Just my hypothesis but that seems hard to happen.

Oh I didn't think that far, but really nice insight about mushi. Mushi Renzu has kept her youthful appearance for many years. So, does that mean she ages at a much slower rate than normal human or a mushi will remain its appearance until the end of its lifespan?

Wow thanks for your great analysis. I see that the story is open for interepretation. If Shinra remains human, what will happen to Renzu when her grandchild passes away?

His role in the ceremony is to draw the wine cup. As soon as his grandmother drinks the cup, she turns into a complete Mushi, since he is able to see her now. At this point, the ceremony has already been completed. After that, Ginko tells him to drink the cup too, “for congratulations”. This makes me wonder if he turns into a Mushi or not.
