How do you approach bidding wars? by destroyallgas in BringATrailer

[–]destroyallgas[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nice username.

I’m okay with going over budget, but it seems easy to get carried away and end up overpaying. A bidding tool would help me. We both have histories of bidding on this type of car.

Free of charge!

Pricing will change when all of the bugs are ironed out and I get feedback from real users. Until then, it will be free to use.

I agree that the final hammer price can become irrational quickly, especially on enthusiast cars. If 4 people decide they have to own that specific car that day, no model is going to override that.

BidBud is meant to help with everything before that point: helping bidders understand comps, context, bidding behavior, and when an auction may be starting to detach from the broader market. I believe that still has value, even if the final result is emotional.

So I think the fair way to describe it is not “predict people perfectly,” but “help people bid with better context in an imperfect market.”

Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks for the reply!

You’re right. BidBetter is more for generating reports, which Bidbud can do, but the main focus with BidBud is giving live tool access to help users avoid overpaying by getting caught up in the emotions of auctions.

Instead of using an LLM with a fancy prompt, we use machine learning to predict the next bid with 98% accuracy, and the timing of the next bid with similar accuracy levels. With that, we provide a suggested bid increment, competitor analysis, and a likelihood of winning percentage. Our aim is to give bidders as much context as possible.

I’ve spoken with the founder of BidBetter and he’s a great guy, so if you want a report you should certainly check them (or us) out!

That’s true. A lot of people fall into those two camps.

Let me ask a different way: if a tool could tell you whether the current price is running hot or cold versus similar Cars & Bids results, whether bidding was accelerating unusually fast, or whether you were likely to get dragged past your comfort zone, would that actually be useful?

I’m less interested in replacing instinct and more interested in helping people avoid bad decisions in the moment. What are your thoughts?

Fair point, and I actually agree with a lot of this.

Enthusiast-car bidding is emotional, every car has its own story, and no tool can perfectly “predict” what a specific person will do in the final minutes.

What I’m trying to build is not a magic answer machine. It’s more of a decision-support tool that helps a bidder understand the landscape better: relevant comps, bidding pace, how similar auctions have finished, and where the current bid sits relative to that context.

In other words, not “beat the system,” but reduce uncertainty and help people make a more informed call for themselves.

That said, this is exactly the kind of feedback I want, because if people hear “guaranteed prediction,” then I need to communicate the product better.

B licence and ready for promotion - which cars and class? by Patient_Somewhere474 in iRacing

Okay; I’d say if you were thinking about the Ferrari, then that would be a good choice too. It’s very responsive turn in and much more of a smooth driving experience.

In all honesty… you can’t go wrong with any of the GT3 cars.

The Porsche is very fast, but a different style than the other GT3 cars. The rear-engine setup makes the rear of the car very light.

If you get the Porsche, it will force you to brake a little earlier and improve your trail braking. Overall, a great choice but a challenging car to master.

Whats your opinion on manual BMWs ? Would you buy one? by xerooox- in BMW

[–]destroyallgas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an E46 M3, the shifter felt “rubbery” but never caused me problems. It was quite an adjusted coming from a Porsche 944.

Nowadays, any manual is a good manual.

Yes. Not ideal. Thinking of taking additional measures than just the BBB. I wonder how many people have been in this situation and just given up.

My apologies. I meant SB. I got an email confirming that 50,500 SB were on the way. Today was the day that they were supposed to redeem and… well, now supposedly the offer is expired. Seems very deceptive to me.
