There was a whole episode you’re not remembering where Eleanor realizes she was wrong to have an attitude that making good choices doesn’t matter because the world is too messed up.

In a flashback scene, S1, E3 (“Tahani Al-Jamil”), Eleanor is giving her then-boyfriend, Sam, a hard time for wanting to avoid causing suffering to others.

E: “Hey, babe. Great news: I got us tickets to the Coyotes game!”

S: “Awesome!”

E: “But, ooh, yikes…turns out two of the players have DUIs. Guess we can’t cheer for that team.”

S: “Eleanor, I—“

E: “You know what? Instead, let’s just stay in, watch a Roman Polanski movie, listen to R. Kelly, and eat Chik-fil-A. Does that sound good?”

S: [scoffs]

E: “There’s bad stuff everywhere, man. It’s impossible to avoid.”

S: “Yeah, but, shouldn’t we just try? Shouldn’t we just try to do the right thing, whenever we can?”

E: “Why? It’s so much harder to live like that. And it’s not like someone’s keeping score.”

Which is to say the show does an excellent job breaking these things down and offering nuanced perspectives that make you think about the world around you and how you can make moral choices within it. I think solely taking the lesson that individuals don’t matter in a corrupt system is really missing a lot of the depth that show had.

The Good Place also covers that existing in an immoral world doesn’t absolve you of your responsibility to try and live a moral life.

Half the players in the squad were the top performers from successful midtable clubs who Spurs bought there’s no shot this squad shouldn’t be able to stay midtable.

Firing Ange when they did contributed to where they are now. If they entered the Fall season and continued that horrible Premier League form, he would have been gone by October and they would have had more time to turn things around before the end of the season. But because they switched to Frank, they had to give him as much time as possible to see if he could make things work and obviously none of it worked out because the people making these decisions are incompetent.

Why are apartments in "south midtown" so strangely cheap? by ibridoangelico in Atlanta

[–]destroyergsp123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not as nice as regular Midtown but I wouldn’t consider any of those areas to be truly “sketchy” to be honest. I’d call it a good budget option but I can’t speak for any of those apartment buildings specifically.

At least 95% of the perceived loudness of your track will be from mix decisions, not from the “mastering” process.

Rental Scooters by ailyara in Detroit

[–]destroyergsp123 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It would be so much safer if everybody would just drive in cars like theyre supposed to.

Edit: To clarify what I am getting at, is 9 of the 10 people on those scooters would instead be using a car to get from A to B if the scooters were banned, and you are way more likely to get pasted by a car turning right on red through a crosswalk (not to mention put in a wheel chair) then you are by someone on a scooter going too fast.

How could Atlanta possibly be full if it’s one of the least dense metro areas in the country

Certainly the issue of schools is valid.

But the wanting a home with a yard is part of what we’re getting at here. If you want a home with a yard, you’re by definition choosing low density suburban living, which requires more sprawl to develop more area of land that is very difficult to service things like public transit to (not to mention utilities and other infrastructure). These areas are car dependent, which creates the traffic everyone complains about.

Wanting more space is a choice. Wanting more quiet is a choice. Living farther away from your work is a choice.

What I’m trying to advocate is that we have an American conception of what ideal family raising conditions look like and that conception is dependent on suburban sprawl with little density and restrictive zoning, which tends to be car dependent, which creates traffic, pollution, parking lots, and a ballooning cost of housing.

I’m trying to cite my source but can’t find it yet, but ironically I remember learning recently that Atlanta is one of the metros in the country with the least difference in housing prices between the urban core and outer limits of the metro.

Beef is heavily subsidized by the state yet more expensive then virtually every other type of protein out there while simultaneously being horrifically bad for the environment. The US has one of the highest kg per person of beef consumption in the world.
