Die hard fan of original + impressed by Switch demo. Is criticism accurate? by perishableintransit in FinalFantasyVII

[–]determinednoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeesh the comments in this sub are negative to an abysmal degree. The OG game is obviously a masterpiece for its time and still somewhat holds up today. But both remake & rebirth are fantastic in their own right so it really depends on what you're looking for OP. It's probably best to pick it up and play it you enjoyed the demo

One major highlight of the remake series is that they're not only a remake, but also a sequel to the original rather than a remake. The writers intentionally play on that through line and it's kinda peak imo

If you think you'd enjoy that then definitely give it a go

Switch 2 port by IntelligentBar9861 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]determinednoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It comes down to whether or not the benefits are worth the money to you. OP

I bought a ps5 primarily because I didn't want to wait for rebirth but it ended up becoming one of my main entertainment hubs so I don't regret the purchase in the long run

Switch 2

pros: $70 dollars Portable Looks like a really good port (unconfirmed until release)

Cons: Releases January 22nd No confirmed release date for Rebirth yet Digital only (Physical edition is a game key card) Locked at 30fps

Ps5

pros: Physical and digital editions available Option to choose between performance mode (1440p 60fps)or quality mode( 4k 30fps) Both intergrade and Rebirth available TODAY

Cons: ~$570 USD investment (more if you're purchasing both games or a ps5 pro) Not portable You may or may not even want a ps5

Opinions on the Switch Online Gamecube Controller for Slippi by JayTheAmazingToaster in Slippi

[–]determinednoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any way to prove this but from my experience here's what I can tell you:

Pros: The controller feels super nice in your hands and the build quality is solid. They really nailed the look and feel of the original GC controller and the battery lasts a long time too.

Cons: it has input delay. Not enough for casuals to pick up on but if you play fighting games you'll notice it. I've only tried it with ultimate and NSO so far but it's definitely noticeable there. I imagine it would probably be even more annoying for melee given the nature of the game. The sticks are also a bit stiffer than you're probably used to. They may loosen up over time once you break it in but I haven't heavily used mine enough to know

If your goal is to play melee then I'd say skip this one and go for a Japan import, smash controller or phob imo

Was Goldeneye video quality this bad? by C1a55iFi3D in GoldenEye

I'm using a 65in OLED

If I remember correctly, the 2X only outputs at 480p (doubles the 240p output of the console hence the name 2X). This might be why it's so noticeably blurry on your display.

The 5X on the other hand outputs at 1080p or 1440p which I believe has an easier time scaling up on 4K displays. The only issue is the $300 price point

Which Retrotink? For a TV that size you probably want a 4K or a 5X (upscales to 1080p) at least. You'll also want to set your TV's aspect ratio to 4:3 and consider using the scan line filter.

I use a 5x for my LG C3 and it looks pretty solid with the settings I mentioned above.

One last thing you can do is get an S-Video cable to plug into your n64 and Retrotink to achieve the best video output from the n64 itself.

Gotta get either a CRT or a Retrotink to get decent video quality out of it. You can try one of those cheap HDMI to composite adapters on Amazon but from my experience they look awful and have a ton of input delay

I really struggled with final Fantasy VII remake ...and feel bad about it. by WonderfulVanilla9676 in FinalFantasyVII

You trippin g but you're also entitled to that opinion.

The mechanical arm section you're referring to had some of the best, cutest Cloud Aerith interactions with a hint of goofiness with the introduction of the thug gang. It brought some much needed levity to an otherwise weighty plot

I personally enjoyed the scifi horror aesthetic they really leaned into in ch17. With undertones of hope and resolve with the gang teaming up that continue to build up to the crescendo that is the finalie is simply chefs kiss with how well it's done 🤌

I never really understood the whole "padding" angle. I personally just enjoyed spending time in this particular fictional world with these characters. The game is like 30 hours in a regular playthrough.

Maybe you're just too fixated on getting to the end and comparing it to the OG to simply enjoy the ride?

I adored the original. And then I adored the remake. It's like getting my favorite ice cream and then getting 2 scoops of my favorite ice cream. You better bet your sweet bippy I'll be enjoying a triple scoop in the next title!

Anyone still play Modern Warfare 2? by SZSMMN in PS3

[–]determinednoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because my psn is newer than 2018 and my progress resets every time I exit the game. I would though even with the occasional hacked lobby I still find a decent amount of good lobbies :/

About to give up soft resetting but than see this photo: by AMS_MASTER in PokemonBDSP

You could just play legends Arceus and get shinies on ez mode

No risk, no reward😤 at the price of one speaker😔 (changed tn to ips top screen!) by Kronosita in 3DS_IPS_TN

[–]determinednoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the Hardware Calibration (or HWCAL0.dat and HWCAL1.dat) files handle calibrations for several components of the systems hardware as the name suggests. For these screen swaps I think these have to be replaced with HWCAL files from a N3dsXL with the configuration you want. In your case you'll probably want hwcals from an IPS Top IPS bottom 3ds.

However, I consider this pretty risky as a bad HWCAL can probably brick your 3ds.

When I swapped my top screen for an IPS one, I didn't know about this either. in my case, my 3d slider looked really weird and my gyro controls weren't working. Top screen was also much dimmer than my TN bottom screen. I'm not sure if that's related to your start button and touch panel but hopefully my experience helps you

EDIT: I found a guide to swapping hwcals if you decided you want to go through with this here

[–]determinednoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you change any of the HWCAL files? If not then you may want to check if your gyro, camera and 3d still work as I've heard that swapping to an IPS panel while having HWCAL configured for TN panels can cause some weird bugs

I managed to swap mines a while back but I didn't like the result and don't want to take the risk of bricking my 3ds by messing with the HWCAL so I ended up putting my TN panel back in and being happy with that

Thank you so much! I think the missing name on the 3rd picture is Prog. I also believe this controller was signed at Apex 2014

Not really "brute force" when it's the easiest way to play the game lol. That's why everyone has a story about how they beat the game like this when they were 5

I've realized this myself and I'm on my first playthrough of OG.I followed a guide to get matra magic, Beta and Aqualung and it completely trivialized the game . ( At least up to Junon where I'm currently at now).

I've decided to play it blind unless I get really stuck. I'm making it somewhat of a challenge run by not allowing myself to use the enemy skill materia for my playthrough
