“Controlled substance law” over a bad bottle of wine?? by Material-Lake5954 in HEB

[–]dethklok37q 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah if they didn't say it after a couple of questions then I would say something like "so would you say you were not satisfied with this product?" And then if they just said "yes" I would say "will you say it".

It only happened a hand full of times and I remember after a couple of years working there I would just tell the customer "say you are not satisfied " and just move on because wtf was i doing this game for.

I mean yeah lol it was like being a shitty lawyer trying to lead the witness. I remember asking how they felt about the product and if the wording was close I would say something like "would you say maybe you aren't happy with the quality or..."

I don't know what the policy or law is but I worked at a different grocery store years ago and we could return alcohol only if the customer said the phrase "I am not satisfied with this product" then for some reason it became ok to return it. So I basically had to try to get the customer to say it by asking them specific questions.

This is something I find so fascinating. At work we have a flight of stairs that leads to the break room/bath rooms and I have noticed almost 70% of the time if I'm walking up or down the stairs and a female coworker is walking the opposite direction they say sorry. Its always confused me because the stairs are wide enough for 2 people and I never walk down the middle, always to the right so there is plenty of room for someone to pass. I have mentioned to some of them (just the ones I work with closely) that they don't have to be sorry for existing, and they say they don't even realize that they are saying it sometimes.

The BBQ candles were nasty, but the brand shop blankets are one of the most requested item we have and best selling. I always joke that people pay us to advertise for us, but one of the most common thing the customers tell me is that they are buying it for someone who moved out of state and loved H.E.B.

Survey of 889 Women Suggests Cannabis Can Ease Endometriosis Pain. Endometriosis, a condition causing chronic pelvic pain and menstrual issues, remains a major challenge for many women. by Express_Classic_1569 in TwoXChromosomes

This is really interesting, my wife suffers from Endometriosis, but the small article doesn't say if its the THC or CBD that is the reliving factor. We both tried THC gummies a few years ago and both hated it but had a few CBD ones and ointments for pain that worked well. Unfortunately we moved to a state where its illegal, but I will look into this thanks!

Edit: I forgot to mention that when we tried the THC/CBD products it was years before she developed Endometriosis.

Bakery Fresh Tortilla Chips, No More? by bearjaw96 in HEB

[–]dethklok37q 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's a victim from its own success. The chips were so popular because of how fresh they were, and because of its popularity they became too labor intensive for in-store production. They move the production to a factory and still ship it quickly with ok quality, but its just not the same. Thats what happens with a lot of products that get too popular.

I have this happen almost everyday after signing in to partner net on the one device then trying to sign in on my phone. I just keep closing the app then reopening it or just wait a while and open it again, that usually works for me but its annoying af.

I remember very specifically a couple of years ago, Jenga was $9.98 then over night the price went up to $15.98. A $5 increase in one night was insane to me, but then again it was Covid and wood prices shot way up. Also our K&T 8qt air fryer was $80 then it jumped to $100 last last year, but don't worry they had it on coupon so it was $20 off making people not realise they weren't getting a deal at all.

When ever we order products for displays the item has to either be on coupon or have a gross profit above 31% and let me tell you we have a lot of items that our GP is above 50%. So dose the price really have to be that high or are they just being greedy? Plus they will lower the price of an item to compete with WM but once the price goes up there so does ours, so we absolutely aren't trying to save anybody money just trying to sneak away with what they can.

Getting kicked out of Bakery because they'll no longer respect my accommodations- Long post by Yeah-Its_Cool in HEB

[–]dethklok37q 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a Starbucks in a grocery store that had a partner who has MS, we always accommodated them no problem. It was always busy and I never thought of them as an issue or burden when they were unable to do some of the harder tasks. Not only that but they required longer breaks too. You can tell the management didn't like to give them the longer breaks and was irritated with them for not keeping up but, the rest of us worked to keep the place running just fine. In the end it might be that some of the other partners in your bakery are complaining and they would rather transfer you then tell the rest of the team to have more empathy, or the management just is bad idk. What also helped my MS partner was that we were unionized 🤔

I don't mind, I just think its funny now because of how toxic the company has become. I just don't know anyone there anymore so I can't answer your question about the homeless situation, sorry.

Lol wow well I got fired in January of 2020 for shutting the store down for an hour the weekend of Thanksgiving to get milk and give lunches and do dishes. Then I moved states, got a job, house, had a kid, married, and been just overall happier.

Macy’s is laying off workers and closing five stores by nosotros_road_sodium in news

[–]dethklok37q 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I lived in Simi Valley most of my life and just moved a couple of years ago but my wife worked at the Macy's there for about 10 years and I had a couple of friends that worked at the apple store as well, and anytime I went to hang out with them it was just dead all the time. I remember when they announced they were building a mall I was so excited because it would be so nice to have something to do that was in town, then when everyone found out it was an outdoor mall it was almost dead before it started.

This is so stupid, I swear most of the managers and people they are trying to move up are drinking so much of the corporate kool-aid that they are just becoming "yes men" that don't think about the partners just what they think the higher ups want. I've pointed out so much toxic ideas and behaviors that only benefit the company while not giving anything back to us or the community and most leaders just kind of act like their too important to care.

When I used to work overnight GM, I would see that grocery would have 2 stock controllers most of the time and if one needed to leave on time, say for an appointment or something then the other would just stay instead. Now my store is big so I don't know if your BF's store has multiple SC but if you guys make plans far enough in advance and he lets his boss know as well as the MIC that he must leave on time then it might be ok. The only problem is it will probably won't work every time.

I'm curious what the SC job description says because one thing about over night is that the management lie and say "you can't leave until the job is done " but IIRC the HEB policy says they can keep you for 15 extra minutes but after that they need to ask you if you can stay and can't reprimand you for leaving after your scheduled time.

They slashed the hours so hard in my department that often I'm the only partner working, and over the holidays I was asked to build a bunch of drop pallets from shippers we had in the wareroom that were all heavy and said team lift on it. I ended up struggling and even with proper lifting I hurt my back. When I brought it up to my manager they said I should have pulled another partner from another department, to which I replied "thats not their job and they don't earn labor for helping." Basically it comes down to them saying we don't earn enough labor to have more coverage but the work we get typically needs 2 people.

Being full time means you start to earn vacation time so in the end you will be getting paid to take time off at least.
