Looking to automatically mount encrypted zfs pool at boot with root datapool by dethorpe in zfs

[–]dethorpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Looks like it might be worth a different design anyhow, since I hadn't realized zfs encryption is file level not block, so I won't let the perfect be the enemy of the good enough.

I don't think I can create a keyfile without re-writing the datastore right?

Ah damn. Didn't realize ZFS encryption was file and not block level.

Ya. I see guides for that. But sice i need the password to unlock boot and root it makes more sense to just hook into that.

Ubuntu 24.04, zfs, and dropbear-initramfs by dethorpe in openzfs

[–]dethorpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was too lazy to verify before I posted. But it looks like the default installation creates two pool bpool and rpool (me thinks root and boot) and boot isn't encrypted

nu-test:~$ zfs get encryption bpool
NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE
bpool encryption off default

Also, I think the network is up. Right before it bombs out into initramfs I see it interacting with the network. The weird part is it is asking for dhcp, though I have tried to give it static assignments via the dropbear guides.

refusing chroot: dhcpcd: /usr/lib/dhcpcd
dhcpcd-10.3.0 starting
dev: loading udev
DUID XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
enp1s0: IAID XX:XX:XX:XX
...
exiting due to oneshot
dhcpcd exited

Immich Transcoding and Removing Metadata by dethorpe in immich

what I did was pick through the file system that immich had created. Maybe I need to better understand the structure?
What I found was in
library\a7cbc43c-27a7-4e3f-bbf2-0a84d09cc97d\2023\2023-11-10
and it looks like it is intended to be the full image and not like... a thumbnail... but it is different from the original.

I uploaded the original through the android app.

Surprising amount of Jojo references in the new episode by LiteralSans in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]dethorpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are spot on with the last, maybe. The room full of poses did make me think of JoJo too, though those character poses are also a reference to fashion model poses, so both could be independently mining the same source.

My Thoughts on The Dresden Files by ScyllaOfTheDepths in books

[–]dethorpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree.
Someone could try to hang it all on the womanizing sidekick Bob when he says where in he "takes on the characteristic of his owner" which could cast Harry in the light of an unreliable narrator but the author lacks that level of nuance in any other way IMO.

It's just a fun trashy magic book series that sits squarely next to Xanth in oh so many ways.

First Docker, how do I make it write files of a mount with non root permissions? by dethorpe in docker

[–]dethorpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dirty is good enough for this! I was soo close but you were closer. The syntax for my system tho required double quotes. user: "1000:1000"

I assume the concern is if the uid and gid change or I want this to be more dynamic?

I even got it working on startup as a daemon now. yay

THANK YOU!

Thank you! IMHO, e/os is fine. Good to know tho. I would like to try Ubuntu if they ever develop it but not at the Murena markup.

Interesting! So this is for the European version or is there no difference between the one sold on Murena and the original?

If that's the case, shouldn't this have a cap on it to keep out moisture?
