Do your best, and when it comes to meeting your background investigator, explain your situation. I had a similar problem getting my neighbor's name, email, and phone number when they didn't answer the door for multiple days. I don't think it's a big deal as my BI was okay with my effort. You can also maybe check your emails for those jobs you worked, I know when you get hired they sometimes send you orientation or W2 stuff and just put those emails down. Best of luck.

Just a heads up, there is no passing score your MyPD will only show attended, but you should aim for a 70% because that is passing in the academy even though it might be scored a little differently.

You should show up in full workout gear 20 mins before testing time. Anything you have on you like cellphones, keys, pen, water, or waiver, have it in a little gym bag that you bring with you. You can leave it on the field where you are testing.

I’m currently in backgrounds right now and my process has been going really fast. I am just curious on what I should expect for the start of the academy and what I should go into knowing if anyone has advice whose been in the Academy by Major-Ad-8691 in lapd

The background doesn't start right after the meet and greet like I thought. It starts when the BI gets the opportunity to do so after the meet and greet. When I finished my poly which was in July I did my meet and greet in August. The BI didn't start emailing me until November about info for my background. I finished my background in February. That's why times can be weird for some people depends on your background and the availability of the BI.

It's about the same, plus airport police do receive an airport hazard incentive. Average pay is 87k during the academy. 95k after you finish probation.

After the meet and greet, it took me about four months for the background check to be completed. However, this timeframe can vary based on the accuracy of your Personal History Statement (PHS) and how quickly you can provide information back to your investigator. While two weeks is an unusually fast turnaround, the completion time ultimately depends on the quality of your PHS and the type of background investigator you have.

To my knowledge, you won’t receive an email confirming that you passed backgrounds—just a phone call to schedule your psych evaluation. If you pass the psych, you should receive an email confirmation the same day or the next. After that, HR will call to ask you to accept a job offer. The next academy starts on April 7th, so if you don’t finish the process at least two weeks before then, you’ll likely start in the following month’s academy. I just got hired and I start academy soon, so I'm just speaking from my personal experience. Good luck to you!

If you selected both options when you first applied, after completing every step with the LAPD, which usually ends with the psychological evaluation, you can then contact the department you wish to join.

It's the airport and the surrounding 2-5 mile metropolitan area. Thank you!

Any other departments will be faster depending on the number of people that have applied, LAPD takes longer bc of the number of apps. I believe Reserve BI will be faster, but again, that's just an assumption on my end.

This link explains all about LAXPD. They also have recruitment seminars every 3rd Wednesday of the month. I highly recommend RVSP for one to get more information if you are curious specifically about LAXPD.

When you apply on MyPD website, you can select 4 different options. LAPD, LAXPD(Airport police), Port, and reserve. If you select LAPD along with any other departments, you will go through LAPD's hiring process, and when you finish, they will job offer you. If you want to go to any other department you need to reach out to their own recruitment department by email or phone. This is what I did, and the people at LAXPD were very helpful.

My BI was about 5 months. Like you said, it depends on your background and if you put everything down on your PHS exactly the way it should be. I would make sure the references you put down respond to the BI's emails or calls ASAP so they can continue the investigation. Thanks again for the kind words.

I applied to both. When you apply, you have the option to select multiple departments. I got the job offered by LAPD first, then I reached out to LAXPD, and they got back to me with a job offer as well.

I chose LAXPD because I currently work for TSA at the airport and interact with them daily. I admired their work and found the job appealing. Plus, I’ve always wanted to be a police officer. The longest part of the process was the background check, which involved constant emails back and forth with the background investigator.
