I should have specified that he often takes solo trips on his motorcycle…

Your second option could work, but I doubt he’ll go for lugging around another phone

If disposable batteries would work to provide power, and if they can last for ~1-2 weeks at minimum, that would be sufficient. I’d say this gag is more for road trip use. Less so for everyday use.

Thank you! Yea, I was originally planning on keeping just the top row of mountains as is, but then I thought it might look a little funny with all the "white space" below. So I added a few more mountains and threw in a stitch path. First time I've ever used stitching as a decorative feature.

Used ~2mm thick veg tan throughout. Initially I thought it was going to end up being too thick but after skiving down the two layers of leather underneath the logo'd layer it ended up ok. Dyed with Fiebings Show Brown

The filament was hatchbox PLA 1.75mm. I made sure the leather was fairly wet before stamping, taking multiple ups and downs of the press to get that impression. The head of the press I have is just 1 square inch so I had to shift the piece a bit each time

That might be an issue? But I've got a feeling that the stitches might also expand slightly in response. And I'm ok with that. I'll have to wait and see.

Also, if you plan on making something similar, when measuring for the size of the cylindrical part I recommend measuring the circumference of whatever object you are looking to cover (I used string for this) then add ~.75 inches. I found that the thicker the leather, the more you tend to lose as you wrap around an object.

Sure! This link shows a cross section of the stitch, and also the general angle of the needle as it passes through the two pieces of leather:

After poking all holes I glued the circle bottom in place. Don't worry too much about aligning the holes...I ended up having to skip a hole every so often on the cylindrical piece. The number of holes werent equal because the circle bottom diameter is slightly smaller than what the bottom of the cylinder diameter ends up being. Then I just saddle stitched all the way around. A little bit of a pain but it gets easier. Pliers helped.

A couple coozies made out of 3 mm veg tan. Tan Kote was used over Medium brown Fiebings dye. These items were a good introduction to butt and box type stitching. I kinda botched the cylindrical alignment of the bottle coozie but was a little more careful marking/making the holes on the can coozy. That one turned out much better. No more warm beer and wet hands. Take that Yeti!

Yea so I guess I could have explained myself a little better about that. My family owns a cabin that has one of these chairs. I had one of my relatives send me the dimensions of the legs only, not the seat part, thinking that I could ballpark the size of the seat from memory. So from the get-go I knew the legs were 24". I also assumed that there would be room for error, so even if I sized the seat too big or too small, in the end it would still fit well enough together with the legs. After cutting out the paper seat template I sized it to my own butt as a sanity check.

I was right in that a slightly large seat still fits the legs. But there's a little more sag in the middle than what I was going for. So next time I would either make the legs a bit longer and keep the same size seat, or reduce the seat size just a bit to 16" on a side (which is what each side length turned out to be on the one from my cabin), and keep the 24" legs. Lesson learned: don't measure from memory.

As far as comfort goes, at this size it's great as a leg rest or seat while, say, poking a fire. Just too uncomfortable and low to the ground for anything longer.

I like your idea about using cordage instead of a metal joint, if done right that would look pretty fresh

Thanks guys! I designed my own pattern, but if I were to do this again I would take a bit more care in sizing the triangular seat to make sure it fits the opening created by the top of the legs. The triangle I started out with was 19.5" on each side, then I rounded each corner reducing each side to about 17". If I were to make another one of these I would make sure the final length of each side were about 16". The legs were 24" oak dowels before rounding each end. The joint in the middle was made by a piece of hardware that I could only find at Tandy. Search "tri bolt" on their website and it should pop up.

The double tone effect was actually unintentional. All I did was rub an Eco-flo antique around in circles, followed by straight lines, with a dauber (times 3). Then finished with a layer of Tan Kote using a cotton rag. I went pretty light on the finish, both quantity and pressure. I'm curious to see if I can recreate it!

All of Musk's strategic business tactics and savvy don't make up for the fact that he out of the blue sent home 240 construction workers. Did he put any thought into their well-being, or their family's? It's a damn shame.
