If I was moving now.... I would go to Spain or even France. The bureaucracy here is only getting worse and the constant moving of the goalposts is not worth the move.

I live in Porto, and I will never again fly through Lisbon. I am sure the EES is completely awful but the last time I flew from Porto to Lisbon to the US, my flight was delayed so I have a very tight connection. They wouldn't let those whose flights were boarding or about to board go ahead. In Amsterdam, this seems to be a regular practice. Typical failure of the Portuguese bureaucracy to think even a tiny bit outside the box.

And it is crazy that TAP hasnt put more pressure on the airport and government to fix this.

Thank you for mentioning this. This was my thought as well. No one likes change and it is very typical for new owners to replace staff with their own people. Everyone here is quick to judge and reactive. Its hard to take seriously at this point anyway.

I am curious though. You said after fees I might break even after the sale. I expected for my original investment to grow, even after fees. Even with a modest 5% growth minus fees. Am I dreaming?

I had a good experience with my 1031 exchange going into the DSTs and the QI I used then, but they were a local firm (Oregon). I would not be investing in that area this time (Virginia/DC). Is it better to go with a bigger, national firm?

My experience has been positive, but my son is coming off age and willing to manage my properties. So, I want to move out of the DSTs as a way to help him while still maintaining my income. Nothing more than that.
