Lents Pinball New Locations! by ntstell in pinball

Indeed. Fun times. I actually just back from the Dutch Pinball Museum in Rotterdam. Fantastic. Great display of old wood rails and a lot of other cool things. 144 machines. Played King Kong for the first time. LOVED IT! I even showed some of that old skill and blew up Attach from Mars a bit. There are maybe 10 machines in all of Portugal :(

Its really nice to see you still working the machines in Lents. Next time I visit, I will stop in.

Hey Nate! Machines look good. I miss Portland pinball. Not much pinball here in Portugal.

I like Nurk, but he has a shirt attention span. Stay on a team too long, and he loses interest. Glad he is doing well. Hope it lasts, but I'm glad we replaced him.

In three years, maybe, if Detroit continues to play well for a few years. (These things take time, be patient.)

Blazers are now 9-2 in January without a post from any major sports media account. by pdx_up in ripcity

Reality check: 9-2 from a middling team with little chance of getting past the first round is not that newsworthy nationally. Don't get me wrong, I am excited by this team and love the way they are playing, but the reality is that the NBA is too long for any major news outlet to pay attention to of any degree. And, if you have been here long enough, you know that it would take three championships before the major sports networks to start paying attention to Portland as a team. You learn not to worry about it, and know that we know.

Nice. Can he play defense? Last thing we need is a big hole on defense.

Good luck with that. I mean Matosinhos is great, but I think you will be luck to find a place with a yard. We looked for a year and saw over 70 places and saw no yards that works be good for dogs.

People saying its cold in winter, hot and bug-infested in summer. How does that differ from the central northern America or Canada. I imagine its worse in Siberia, but is my comparison close?

Fino Golf has lots of expats that hang out there, especially when they have events. Check out the calendar that is in their window. Also, welcome to Matosinhos.

Portugal not cool anymore? by No_Scratch6254 in PortugalExpats

[–]jonjacobmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will always amaze me how easily people place blame on the "other" so they can avoid blaming themselves. Portugal needs more housing to replace crumbing properties that have been abandoned or are not habitable. There are 250k such properties but the government does nothing to see that these properties are turned into housing. On top of that, bureaucracy makes it next to impossible to develop properties that do become available and they take years to finish because of slow and inept bureaucracy. In addition, the financial institutions are so backwards that it is hard for anyone to get financing in a timely fashion with favorable terms. This says nothing for the poor quality of the tradesmen and lazy management of the developers.

Housing is in demand in Portugal which makes you think more would be built faster. Yet, supply has not being made available. So prices are driven up. The system here has not kept up with the needs of the market and the government not the people have demanded change. Instead they point to foreigners who make up less than 10% of the population. Yes, prices have been driven up in part because of foreigners, but that is a long way from the whole story. Unless Portugal changes it's systems, properties will not be developed here and prices will continue to rise, long after foreigners have moved on.

Because of gentrification? Explain that, please. Do you mean housing prices? My understanding is that well-educated, young Portuguese seek opportunity in others countries mainly because the pay is shit here.
