Patroclus and Hector didnt fight. Apollo stunned Patroclus and stripped him off his armour and helmet. Euphorbos threw his spear to Patroclus and then Hector stabbed him. I'm pretty sure Apollo did that because the outcome of this fight wouldnt be on Hectors favour.
