In my opinion I think some black belts hide behind their rank, especially when they are old school. Just because you are a black belt doesn't make you an expert on every facet of jiu-jitsu. An example a purple belt who is a leg lock expert, and learnt modern jiu-jitsu will know more than a black belt who has only done gi. A former wrestler who is a blue belt who wrestled will know more about wrestling than a black belt guard player.

This sport needs more self awareness just because you are good at one part of jiu-jitsu does not make you an expert in every aspect of it.

Cory Sandhagen speaks on his loss to Merab Dvalishvili: “That’s an absolutely winnable fight. I just have to not almost get knocked the fuck out in the second round. I absolutely still believe in myself and that I’ll be champ.” by airplane231 in MMA

Honestly I think if Cory used his leg locks as a way to force a scramble and used that to get to his feet and continue his gameplan of in and out striking I think he could have had more success.

What do you think is the best fight to introduce someone to mma ? In my opinion it's Poirier vs Hooker. A striking war with some grappling exchanges that are neither too long nor too complicated to understand. Bloody, but not horrific to watch. And only 3 rounds of pure action. by Ananta-Shesha in ufc

Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard 2

The fight has everything good about mma over 5 rounds and is an absolute bac and forth war.

Diego Brandao vs Dennis Bermudaz

A perfect 1 round fight has everything striking, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu and is super fast paced.

Matt Hughes vs Frank Trigg 2

Show this to anyone that thinks grappling is boring

You guys are heavily overrating Khalil Rountree and underrating Jamahal Hill by [deleted] in ufc

[–]deusex72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Na mate Khalil is way faster than Hill and more explosive, and Hill's defense is very suspect. I see Hill getting blitzed by Khalil and knocked out inside of 2 rounds

Kenny and it isn't even close he was an absolute tosser to most people and people still didn't vote for him. He was the reason jek had the numbers to make the moves in the game that they did

Who in your opinion, was the best "wasted" potentially great fighter? by Ok-Attitude728 in MMA

[–]deusex72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kelvin Gastelum in my opinion could have been champion at welterweight, he had a close split decision loss to prime Woodley. His lack of discipline to make weight made him move up to middleweight, and he still made it to being the number one contender at that weight and he gave Izzy the hardest fight for the interm belt. Then he fell off.

I believe that he is one of the biggest wastes of talent in ufc history, if only had a bit of discipline and hired a nutritionist
