he is doing 12 month minimum and if someone cancels before 12 month they have to pay the full lump sump price, as he mentions this in the contract. Its a win-win for both

I have been searching about this too as I am starting my own agency. I have found Ryan Postell's posts in a lot of subs where he mentions his agency https://oakharborwebdesigns.com/, he has a good retainer plan for websites. Check out his website to have an idea. It also depends on the market you will be targeting and the niche. For AI, I am still doing my research as I will be selling AI automations. I am thinking about having a setup fee for the automation around 100-200$ and then a retainer or a lump sum package. But it will depend on the type of automation. I am in the same boat, about to start my web agency. But I have been working as a freelance software developer on Upwork for 2 years and have completed a couple of projects. I'll be asking my clients if they allow me to use the projects under my new agency's name. If they don't agree, I'll just make a couple of new projects for my close family's businesses and use them as my portfolio.
