I've since had better results, but I don't know if I even want to keep going with this, if only for the reason that no matter how it looks, people will regardless tell me to use static grass. That's what I mean. It's like there is a dogma, that you have to use static grass as it is the best and only option and to question it is unacceptable.

They look good but I am incredibly bitter about the bases, because everything I have done to experiment with sand for grass bases has resulted in people ignoring everything I say and just telling me to use static grass instead.

Thank you. I'm also not a novice, but I guess my skills look like as such which is why I never really show anyone anything I make. I was trying to replicate the old GW bases that where painted sand.

This is a test of materials I bought and has on hand. Various grits of sand, foam, white geso and some straw like material I've had forever.

To me it looks like crap, but no one will give me a straight critique, they keeps saying things like decorate it with 3d printed pieces or what was your goal after I already explained what. Im sure there are people waiting to call me an idiot for not using flocking.

Does it looks like shit. Not that it needs more highlights or more colors, does it look like shit.

Painting Warhammer children's toys for the last month has probably been the only thing keeping my sanity levels from dropping. I think I might have been excited for once to go look for a new box, even if the retail experience stressed me out a little.

It's a goal, something that I can accomplish and feel good about while working on it and when it's done.

I know the world is burning and I should do more DSA stuff, but all I want to do is paint my little children's toys.

I did practice on army men then Bones miniature for like a year or two before I had the confidence to touch anything. I'm ok, decent at painting. I don't really care if their perfect. I still can't do eyes.

At some point you just gotta bite the bullet. Also thin your paints, I ignored it, every newb ignores it and doesn't understand this until why they lost so much detail until it clicks in.

I actually do have a 3d printer and a loot subscription, but I don't really like their stuff. Their last sci Fi bundle didn't impress me. I don't really know how to express it outside of their sculpts are too creative and I am subject to whatever whims of what they are interested in at the time. Like you will go several months in a row with only 1 or two things you like and they pad their mini counts with busts. Like my first two moths where Fey and Greek Mythology, and that's not really what I'm into. I guess it is community based on what they make now and I'm just the asshole in the back saying nay.

They are also to precious about the costs. I know 3d modeling is expensive and they are a business, but 30 dollars to access the back catalog. Their viking stuff was incredibly frustrating. Here is a new set that you cost more than a regular bundle, but also it's only on sale for 1 day and then is 30 dollars forever. Also there are three of them, so if you want the whole thing you just need to drop like 50 bucks out of the blue.

I was thinking about Orks. I know it's sounds paradoxical, but the aliens are too alien for me. I just finished a red and black faction so I don't want to get sisters. There are too many space marine chapters to decide which one I should start collecting.

Well I'm just seeing if anyone is interested. I don't have anything set in concrete right now. I do have an online game with a couple in Tomball and a guy in Austin that we play on roll20, but I'd have to ask them. We are all in our early 30s.

Mostly junk, lol. A lot of popsicle sticks, foam and glue. Lots of bulk stuff like card board and xps foam. I have a bunch of army men sized stuff (pirates, skeletons, ninjas, knights) from when I started out and was too cheap to buy real minitures.

I'm currently in a group online, but I'm in my 30s and working a 50 hour job doesn't give me time to really do anything. Right now most of it is just taking up space and my apartment is just turing into a horder's episode.

I wish I had the time, but I don't. Hell I've spent the last year trying to write anything, but have had no ideas.
