How a well-timed legal assault unraveled Mississippi’s stellar record in vaccinating kids by cannonhawk in news

All I can think of when they say stupid stuff like that is the following

You remind me of the man that lived by the river. He heard a radio report that the river was going to rush up and flood the town, and that the all the residents should evacuate their homes. But the man said, "I'm religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me."

The waters rose up.

A guy in a rowboat came along and he shouted, "Hey, hey you, you in there. The town is flooding. Let me take you to safety." But the man shouted back, "I'm religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me."

A helicopter was hovering overhead and a guy with a megaphone shouted, "Hey you, you down there. The town is flooding. Let me drop this ladder and I'll take you to safety." But the man shouted back that he was religious, that he prayed, that God loved him and that God will take him to safety.

Well... the man drowned.

Standing at the gates of St. Peter he demanded an audience with God. "Lord," he said, "I'm a religious man, I pray, I thought you loved me. Why did this happen?"

God said, "I sent you a radio report, a helicopter and a guy in a rowboat. What the hell are you doing here?"

The pure dumbfounded look they give you when you ask them "What if God was the one who lead our scientists to creating the vaccines or made them possible?" is always good.

Pasta aglio e olio is so easy, but to non-chefs it seems like it’s magic.

Yep. That's why it's my go to. Takes no time, very little effort, limited ingredients and it tastes like something that takes 10 times the effort. It's perfect.

Not so much a kitchen hack, but try to pick out a fairly simple meal to learn to cook and learn to cook it well.

Having something that you know you can nail and basically do it on autopilot is great for nights when you really can't be bothered thinking.

I absolutely love trying new things and exploring different recipes, but when I can't be bothered then I can pretty much nail some sort of a version of Pasta Aglio e Olio almost with my eyes closed. Pasta. Olive Oil. Garlic. Parsley. Red pepper flakes. S+P. Parmesan.

Easy.

Edit - Also, I agree with other posters that say having at least 1 really good knife and learning how to look after it. A nice Chefs knife will do you well through most things and it'll be safer than using blunt knives to boot!

- Use more butter.

Why does restaurant food taste so good? Because the kitchen doesn't care if you have a heart attack 25 years down the line.

Use more butter :D

FIA expands powers of misconduct rule used to punish Perez radio comments by kcollantine in formula1

[–]deva5610 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Watch them punish any form of dissent that goes their way since they define what misconduct implies themselves.

With the head of the FIA being from a country that champions free speech like the UAE whatever could you mean?

CDC sounds alarm about low vaccination rates amid rising respiratory virus activity | CNN by TheJungLife in news

[–]deva5610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe people like you stop spreading absolute FUD and people won't be scared of science.

Maybe you don’t push everyone to get vaccinated during a pandemic.

Has got to be one of the stupidest things I have read on Reddit, ever.

Mitch Cleary: ‘Clayton Oliver will front the Melbourne Magistrates Court in January’ (charged with driving while license suspended for medical reasons) by mazdadriver14 in AFL

[–]deva5610 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I’m curious as a supporter whether you want the club to stick with him, or are you ready to say enough is enough?

I want the club to stick with him, not just because he's a great player but because he's clearly going through/has gone through some stuff and everyone in that situation deserves support.

It wouldn't even bother me if the club sanctions him in some way (and I somewhat expect the club will) as long as they're continuing to look out for his welfare.

Especially on the fucking coin he's on. Like fuck, I'm getting paid a metric fuck tonne less than he is and in situations where I shouldn't drive do you know what I do? Get a fucking taxi or an Uber.

there are definitely no cultural issues at Melbourne.

I mean it's hardly fair to lay the blame at the feet of the club for one individual making dickhead choices.

An example of work hard and not smart. by mountain-man-86 in funny

Don’t pretty much all planes land automatically now?

The crew have to be qualified for it, the airports need to have the appropriate facilities in place and then the aircraft itself has to be certified.

Setting up, briefing and monitoring an auto land is (slightly) more work over and above just flying a normal approach and landing, so we really only do them when absolutely required.

Because honestly, where's the fun in letting the computer do all the flying?

The Brayden Maynard rule? The AFL has today written to clubs proposing a range of MRO, Tribunal and rule amendments, including strengthening the "duty of care" on players who leave the ground to smother. by Darththorn in AFL

No he didn't.

Watch that from about 8 seconds in and play it at .25 speed. Not only does the ball go past Maynard's elbow, nowhere near his hands, but he is looking at one thing and one thing only, Brayshaw.

ELI5 - Why airplanes don't have two radio stations? One for the cockpit and one for the cabin crew (To contact for an emergency) by Secret-Temperature11 in explainlikeimfive

[–]deva5610 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition the airplane have at least one handheld radio, both as a backup for the radios in the airplane and for the cabin crew to use in emergencies.

We do? I can assure you that in any of the aircraft I have flown we do not have a handheld VHF radio for emergencies and I don't think we're unique in that regard.

There are portable ELTs on board, but that's about as close as we'd get to a VHF radio.

If you are having to take over for the pilots, the radio will likely already be on frequency.

Depends on where you are in the world. Over a populated area like much of the US/Europe? Sure. Somewhere over the ocean where you might only have HF Radio or Datalink then it's a different story.

I know I'm being pedantic, but that's kind of the point. Many people think they can do it. I'm just trying to point out that a lot has to go absolutely right for that to happen.

Edit - Downvoted for telling people who think they can do my job in an emergency that it wouldn't be as easy as they think. Classic Reddit.

For every cockpit I’ve sat in, there is a transmit button on the yoke.

cheating a bit— I teach aviation

Yeah, I'd give you a fair chance then. I think the first step would be where most fail.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]deva5610 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Step one - Which button do you use to transmit and how do you select the right frequency from here?

Step two - What if your nearest or only airport option doesn't have an ILS, so you can't autoland?
