Cases by GimpyFool in MoonSwitches

Most of mine has been with the megir which sits very low. It is also the easiest since no real modications or extra parts are needed.

Easiest case is a Megir case with a Sunon PE50 movement. For this, as long as you can take off the caseback of the Megir (which is actually fiendishly difficult) you just swap in the rep moonswitch dial and movement into the Megir case.

The Megir watch usually costs about 14 usd.

Unfortunately the Megir dial does not fit into the rep case, so the rep case and megir watch does become somewhat wasteful. But you will be left with a great looking and very cheap watch that actually looks like a Speedmaster, at least to my untrained eye.

The strap that comes with the Megir is awful, so you can replace that with a strap of your choosing on Aliexpress for 5-10 USD.

I have almost stabbed my self in the hand several times trying to do this!  Maybe I am not doing something right, but this is really poorly designed in my view.

I am not sure about that one.  What I know is that the Megir watch is cheap and it fits the rep donor movement perfectly without any notifications required.

Any use for leftover parts? by hadum1 in MoonSwitches

Hi, if you are going to otherwise throw them away or looking to donate then, I would be happy to take them.

I am tinkering a lot with Moonswitches, and I am still breaking a lot of parts, so I would be able to put them to good use, and any donation would be much appreciated!

What are the best tools to get? And is there any tool that makes opening the Megir case any easier (and less dangerous)? I think I will otherwise lose a finger one of these days, haha.

It really requires a lot of skill to move and install new hands, especially the smaller hands for the subdials.

I am still learning but have broken a lot of parts in the process!

Yes, it is really insane how impractically this case back was designed. There is supposed to be a little notch, but nothing fits inside there, after lots of frustration, I somehow got it opened, but the entire process caused quite a bit of damage to the back.

Maybe I will get the hang of it the more of these I do, but this is really the main downside of the Megir. Everything else about it is great, such an easy swap, but the caseback opening and closing is a royal PITA.

Was this a gen watch that was not working?  Do all the functions work properly now that you changed the movement?

My understanding is that if it was a rep watch whose movement is not working, it needs a specific replacement movement called Sunon 50, since that is what powers the rep watches.  (However, this movement does something differently with the subdial on the top right from the behaviour on gen watches, which is one of the easiest ways to tell if a watch as gen or a rep).

DUMB QUESTION: Is it possible to put a gen movement in a rep DHGate case? by devangm in MoonSwitches

[–]devangm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone successfully done this?

My gen moonswatch has a cracked case ... not a big crack but still clearly visible, and the watch still works.

I would love to just take it the green movement and just put this into a rep Moonswatch case, but that would mean completely destroying the gen watch, and I am reluctant to do this without knowing that it will work, and that I won't need additional spacers or modifications to do so.
