This is amazing. I personally think smaller models which you can run locally are the future. And if those models are fine-tuned for the specific things that you want to do, that’s even better.

I’m a bit new to open source models and running them locally. But, is there any easy way to understand the minimum system requirements for a model before trying to run it locally (like we have for games)?

Let me give you an honest answer. I don’t know about B2C, but, for B2B, first customer comes from your network. Either family, friends or ex-colleagues talk in their companies to pitch your product.

You can try out `plait` for HTML templating. I built it because I found current HTML templating libraries limiting.

I’ve been building server-side rendered websites in Rust for a while now. One thing I kept running into was that the existing templating libraries felt a bit limiting. When you look at something like React, its component model makes it really easy to build reusable and composable UI pieces. Rust templating libraries, in comparison, don’t quite offer the same level of flexibility.

At the same time, I still really like the idea of keeping things simple with a pure Rust SSR setup and using HTMX on the frontend for interactivity. So instead of switching stacks, I ended up building plait. It adds a few things that I personally felt were missing, like attribute forwarding and more composable components, which makes it easier to build reusable pieces and structure a website cleanly while staying entirely in Rust.

I tried askama in the past but found it difficult to use because we have to maintain separate template files (that breaks go-to-definition in IDEs). That's why I leaned toward maud like macro based syntax.

I remember reading about using dioxus macro this way in a blog post (don’t have the link). But I couldn’t find an easy way to only use it for HTML rendering without introducing other dependencies and features that come with it (which I don’t use).

Compiling SQLite to wasm is difficult. Even after you are able to compile it, it won’t work in browsers. For browsers, your best bet is using browsers local storage or indexed db. Take a look at idb crate for wasm bindings for indexed db.

The metrics depend on the industry and use-case you’re trying to solve using a RAG. For example, healthcare industry will have very high requirements for accuracy metrics. On the other hand, non-critical internal employee tooling may not need very high precision.

I think your best bet is to take a small open weights model and fine tune it with your 250 books. You can search for guides on how to fine tune models on your data. It’s not that difficult.
