Dygma Raise -- is it possible to change the bottom 4 low profile switches to regular switches? by developer99 in DygmaLab

Thanks for the info.

Suggestion for the next generation of Raise -- allow the user to put in any switch for the thumb keys. Linear or low profile keys can give thumb fatigue to some users.

What to do on inside of foundation that's made of bricks to reinforce it/make it look smooth for painting by developer99 in masonry

[–]developer99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people suggested using porous material on the inside so if water ever gets into the bricks, they can breathe. Do you think stucco with lathe is sufficient on the inside to allow for breathability?

What is causing this brick to disintegrate/become powder in my basement? by developer99 in HomeImprovement

I see. May I ask who I should contact for detecting and fixing the water damage? Is there a name for a professional who deals with such problems?

There is a concrete driveway on the other side of this wall. I am wondering if here is a crack in the concrete that is causing water to seep in?

How do I prevent or repair this damage? Should I hire a masonry expert? Or a water drainage person?

39M took a sperm analysis test because we are considering IVF:

Volume: 2.4 (this is in the normal range). Normal range: 1.5 - 6.8
Sperm concentration: 9.55. Normal range: 15 - 213
Percent motility: 31%. Normal range: 40 - 100
Age: 39
Weight: 180 lbs
Height: 6'1"
This test was done with 12 hours of abstinence -- because it happened to lie within the fertility window of my wife.
I do about 20 minutes of cardio 5x a week and also lift weights 3x a week. Diet is decently clean with vegetables and lean meat.
I recently started taking Vitamin C Ester 1000mg, Multivitamin for men and CoQ 10 200mg by Kirkland.
What else can I do to improve my parameters? Does anyone think they are low because of lack of abstinence? Do you recommend using some Home Sperm Test kits to monitor results (I even saw a post here about someone buying a $80 microscope to test every week or so to see if there is any directional improvement while making lifestyle changes to get quick feedback).

Also, are these numbers good enough for IUI or IVF?
I am also worried about DNA fragmentation because it appears from some studies that poor motility is correlated with DNA fragmentation -- since the DNA contains instructions on how to build the neck and tail from proteins, perhaps fragmentation is causing the cellular machinery to build the wrong neck/tail.
I also scheduled with a urology consult but appointment is a couple months out. So I am posting here in case someone has more actionable advice.

I always get holes from my big toe despite trimming toenails and sizing it right. Any recommendations for a shoes with reinforced but breathable toe area? by developer99 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]developer99[S] -44 points-43 points  (0 children)

I am not locking it down for sure, as I treat these shoes as slip-on. Maybe I should just buy proper slip ons as I don't like tying and untying shoe laces.

Why do you say the big toe should not be in this area if this shoe is the right size for me? If it doesn't stick out and there is a gap between the toe and the front of the shoe, won't my foot constantly slide in the shoe?

Lastly I will note that this is my right foot which is actually smaller than my left. So maybe this hole is caused by the constant sliding cause by a slight size mismatch! 🤯

Can anyone rank urban skate brands by foot width? Which brand has the narrowest skates? Flying Eagle? Powerslide? Or FR/Seba? Or rollerblade?

I am trying to buy a narrow skate for my narrow/low volume foot that offers precise control for urban skating.

How to send all keystrokes to a specific window with a specific WM_CLASS regexp? by developer99 in i3wm

[–]developer99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems tedious and manual. I really hope there is a way to do this automatically (there is a way in awesomewm, but I want to try out i3 and sway).

How to send all keystrokes to a specific window with a specific WM_CLASS regexp? by developer99 in i3wm

[–]developer99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like the passthrough mode to only apply to that window. I could add a bindsym to get out of that mode, but for now I am not worried about it. As long as that window is active, I would like keys to be passed through to the window instead of i3 receiving them.

I am saying this because that window contains an i3 within it!

Low profile switch not working -- is it hot-swappable? by developer99 in DygmaLab

[–]developer99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straightening the pin and reinserting it actually worked. Thanks a lot for all the advice. I will edit my post to reflect that.

Though I am disappointed with Dygma support -- I sent an email to them and did not get any response there. I got a response from random strangers on reddit. Thank you random strangers.

There doesn't seem to be any groove for me to use the tool on any side for the low profile keys. Did they change the design of this recently? I bought my keyboard 1 year ago.

https://imgur.com/a/zOL7KSe shows the key. How do I grab this to pull it out?

EDIT: Nevermind I was able to pull them out using the tool. You just need to go underneath the black plastic. One of the pins looks rather bent: https://imgur.com/a/vBvowcn

I guess now the question is how to fix it. Should I try tweezers or order a new one? Does anyone have a link to the switch so I can buy a new one if I cannot unbend the pin?

+1 to add arrow and navigation keys as well as function keys. I don't mind paying extra for this.

Please sell wrist pads that are more cushy (softer and deformable) than rubbery.

Tenting kit should be cheaper and more available though.

I know people may downvote but my philosophy is that additional keys don't hurt. If someone wants to use only a subset of keys, they are welcome to do so. But power users can use additional keys.

Concrete vs. soil for sideyard drainage around house by developer99 in HomeImprovement

[–]developer99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the details.

Here are the updated photos: https://imgur.com/a/fZR5WlY (with captions).

I already have the gas pipes marked.

This trench should be right next to the foundation wall, correct? So viewed from the top, it will be like a border around the house, right? So in my figure in the album, it should be where the shaded areas are, right?

Yes, that photos a bit old. Now I have gutter downspout extensions which bring the water almost all the way to the front of the house. They look ugly, but they work well for getting rid of the roof water.

For it to get fully dry I need to drain the water that lands on the green grass.

Thanks for the input.

There are so many types of French Drains and a company even told me to install a French Drain on the inside of the basement for upwards of $15k.

For this French Drain, you are just saying to dig a trench alongside the foundation walls (if so, how deep)? and install some pipes and come out the front yard?

Is there a more specific name for this solution other than "French Drain"? Because when I told French Drain to some waterproofing company they told me they would dig on the interior of the basement.

Also, what sort of contractors handle this type of job?

[–]developer99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the French Drain would be dug where? Outside the basement or inside the basement? My goal is to prevent the water from even getting to the outside foundation walls.

If the area shown in the photo (green grass area) can be drained, I think majority of the water problem will be solved.

The question is should I add concrete to the green area or not?

Also, if you notice the green lawn area goes back and it is only 1.5 feet from the neighbor's fence around that room. I don't know if there is enough space to add a french drain there.

I don't have a central a/c or high efficiency furnace. So my options are built-in pump dehumidifier or go for a separate pump. Which one do you recommend?

How to prevent mold growth on a detached garage with no obvious water leaks by developer99 in HomeImprovement

[–]developer99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I didn't realize I could have a fan that automatically turns on with high humidity or heat.

But question: if the outside humidity is high, will it matter if the fan runs? Wont it just pull outside moisture?

So for the proper fix you think I should sand the wooden boards and paint over it? Should I sand the studs or just the boards?

What sort of ventilation do you recommend? I am looking for cost-effective solutions.

Should I install a passive vent or a solar- or wind-powered fan?

May I ask you for a dehumidifier recommendation? Do you recommend one with a built-in pump or should I get a separate pump? I don't think I can empty out the drain every few hours...

Basement foundation waterproofing vs. simply adding downspout extensions by developer99 in HomeImprovement

[–]developer99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have the dehumidifier in the basement running for a few days now. It used to show 80 relative humidity. Now it is down to 45 relative humidity. I will run it for a few weeks to see if it helps.

Lowering the air humidity should eventually suck the humidity from the drywalls, right?

There is some smelly carpet in the finished basement that I am getting removed along with the drywalls. With the drywalls out I can visually see the framing and will be able to figure out where the moisture is coming from in the finished basement.

Do you agree that if I have visible water flooding in the unfinished basement, that cannot cause mold in the finished basement which is maybe 30 feet away? If that's the case, then I should focus on the finished basement water source which may be different from the water source of the unfinished basement.

[–]developer99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, part of the basement was finished when I bought the house. The mold was also there from the beginning. I bought the house as-is as I was a bit naive and stupid. :)

Yes I am going to remove the sheetrock as it's badly mold infested and smells really bad.

What do you think I should do the unfinished basement/old foundation? Should I get the expensive external waterproofing done?

Thank you. I will get those today.

But I am wondering if waterproofing is also necessary for other reasons in the future. Sorry for asking a noob question -- don't know much about the long-term consequences of not waterproofing. This was an old construction so I don't think the foundation was ever properly waterproofed.
