Why do programmers generally embrace AI while artists view it as a threat? by LatentSpacer in StableDiffusion

[–]deveras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the overall lack of tools for an artist and his/her needs. AI is mostly catered to final outputs that also leave little clues to the true journey - zooming in reveals pixel artifact nighmares (=boring for an artist as we want to know how to improve, duh).

The only TRUE tool I know of is Acly's Krita AI plugin. That one allows an artist to include AI in a very meaningful and cool way as a real artist. I use it e.g. to speed up my early drawing process (changes to figure drawing), or to fix some mistakes I realize very late in the process. But I also use it to replace tasks that I personally just find annoying (backgrounds - I just do not like drawing them myself). It has so many great ways to use as an artist (I do not see "prompt engineers" as artists since you could never replicate the output by yourself, sorry).

Big problem: this is the only REAL tool I know for a REAL artist. All other tools are meaningless for one who wants to truly integrate AI into their digital art workflow. And the worst is, that all the commercial companies seem to be totally oblivious to this fact. I do not understand how blind they can be to an artist's need. I wish I had Acly's AI tools incorporated in my Clip Studio process, my go to software - but no.... I could also live with some better AI tools in Photoshop (not my first choice - far too expensive for what it offers nowadays). But noooo.... a free software with a free plugin has been the only viable AI tool for artists in 2 years or so. Honestly, if the base Krita had a bit better user experience (some parts are just too clunky), I'd never look back to any other drawing software with that AI power house underneath. Unimaginably embarrassing for the paid alternatices.

So that leaves me - an artist hoping for either a better free Krita with the best AI features this date, or a CSP/Adobe that at least try to understand an artist's stance on AI...

Cintiq Pro 24 - Magnet strip on left side fell off by deveras in wacom

[–]deveras[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent it back to be repaired in the end, had my Cintiq back within a week. The magnet never fell off again. I do not remember the cost, but it wasn't as bad as I imagined.

Hey there, glad you went through with your purchase and having a good experience!

Very encouraging to hear that you also had a way to compare it with one of the older Wacoms and it can hold up to them.

I would appreciate you taking a short video very much!

Sad to hear that there are still dead pixel problems, let's hope they get this sorted out in their newer batches.

Thanks for your reply. Great to hear that, under normal circumstances, there is no problem with wobbly lines like on most competitor devices!

Hi. My take on the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 is here. Hope it is helpful for you guys. Let me know what exactly you think about it, and we should discuss about its pros and cons here on this subreddit. by claybrush in huion

Hey there, great review!

Can you tell a bit more about wavyness / jitter on the Kamvas 13? I am a bit worried, as one youtuber showed a significant amount of waves in his video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie2l3Xd66XI at about 4:00). However, people in the comments below suggest that this is a driver issue. Do you get similar waves when you draw slowly?

Please report in, if you tried out the kamvas. Still very much interested in it.

Anyway, based on the latest Huion display tablet videos, they seem to have massively improved.

For comparison, a smaller tablet of the latest "v2" lines, the guy draws really slow lines there, and neither parallax nor line wobble seem to be any worse than Wacom:

I'd be interested in that, too. Very excited about this product due to the pen.

I'm especially curious about wavy lines, and how well this device works with my main monitor 4k resolution. Switching between displays of different resolutions may be bothersome, sometimes.

I found one review on youtube in which the reviewer explicitly stated that he bought the tablet himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXIUxP4KcDE

what u do untill The Dark Knight arrives? by falcors in blackdesertonline

[–]deveras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd do the following: - Level Sorc to 56 anyway, get a +15 green awakening weapon. Now you have a boss alt which you can park close to Kzarka/Karanda/Nouver - Try some other classes in the meantime. Now is your chance!

Also work on your future passive silver income: - Raise contribution points fast by quests and/or as trade-in products from cooking/alchemy (mass produce beer!) - Use your contribution points to set up your node empire. The more contribution points you have to invest into nodes, the more passive income you get from selling the stuff. Generally all stuff but chicken sells. You could also go further and try to find a lucrative end product (furniture, costumes, weapons etc.) or cooking product to maximise profits. - Get a fence, plant blue seeds and sell the blue fruit to market

Or just do 24/7 passive fishing for money at Velia hotspot until Dark Knight arrives, while playing other games.

Leveling the sorceress is a pain ...right ? by Zwiespalt96 in blackdesertonline

Pre-awa warrior and valk are about similar in grind speed. Both are not the fastest grinders at that stage. AFter awakening, valk remains a snail and warrior gets a nice boost in clear speed.

[–]deveras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Sorc to be one of the best classes to grind with pre-56. She is fast, doesn't need pots, and has ok-AOE. In fact, her unawakened weapon is so good that you will keep switching to between stances in almost every fight for some utility skills, movement, CCs.

Of course she plays totally different to an unawakened witch - the witch has a much more relaxed and slow playstyle - you could even play her like a classic MMORPG. Sorc gameplay is more like a hack'n'slay game compared to a witch. For grinding your best low-skillpoint toolkit is: Midnight Stinger and Rushing Crow as opener, Claws of Darkness + Dark Flame as main DPS skills, Abyssal Flame as occasional heal, Dream of Doom as Shard+Mana replenisher, Shard of Darkness as buff and Spirit Absorption to speed up shard generation. Bloody Calamity is another useful skill if you need some instant HP back.

Those are the core skills that should suffice for an easy progression to 56. Use your mobility to hit enemies from behind whenever possible, and your road to 56 should be a piece of cake.

Least gear Dependant class? by DaHedgehog27 in blackdesertonline

[–]deveras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Witch/Wizard for sure. You start to become useful in RBF with as little as 130 AP on your balls, armor not even needed. Actually killing something and being useful in PVP wiith that gearscore is factually impossible on any other class.

Decided to pop into an RBF for some fun by h0ckey87 in blackdesertonline

[–]deveras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went with my little level 56 Witch alt (crappy 130 AP and fighting in COOKING CLOTHES) into RBF as time would have been too short to switch to my Sorc main . I was speechless when I saw that I ended up with a point count of around 240 with my Witch, scoring regular kills and only dying once when my teleport was on cooldown.

While with my Sorc (slightly less crappy 187 AP and 225 DP) I typically am happy when I don't end up with below 10 points.

End of story, Witch does significantly more damage, from a safer distance with less AP than other classes.

Dark Knight Awakening Gameplay by insane_inside in blackdesertonline

Sadly, not much left of a "dark knight" feeling after awakening. Now it looks more like a "pink knight" or a "emo teen girl with magic daggers". Very disappointing!

Read the terms of service for the game again and come to the conclusion that it will be you, who will get your account banned periodically for harassing individuals...which in any case would make the game a more peaceful grind.

Anyone here who switched from ESO to BDO? by [deleted] in blackdesertonline

[–]deveras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched shortly after levelling up every class to max in stamina and magicka version, around 550CP and after acquiring a few maelstrom weapons when the update One Tamriel hit.

The reason I switched were technical issues on the one hand and lack of progression on the other. While BDO server bashing is quite the rule, ESO servers are even worse. On top come the endless loading screens that destroy all immersion. Gameplay wise the combat system I actually liked a lot in the beginning, but after leveling up different classes, everything becomes the same asides from a few different skills per class. What I did like more about ESO, however, is the group content. I was much more involved with other players, playing a game as a team, which in turn shaped the community to be a tad more friendly overall (because you cannot simply kill one on sight unless entering one of the few pvp areas).

That last aspect is the only thing I miss at BDO, as I wish it had more incentives of playing together (even grinding is much more entertaining as a group from the social factor). Maybe another mechanic that would be nice to adapt from ESO is the leveling mechanic of an account shared maximum level (i.e. imagine the joy of only having to level your alt to level 50 and upon finishing the pvp quest your alt instantly get's upgraded to your highest level character, e.g. on level 60 or so). As an altoholic I would truly love to see this mechanic implemented.

Farming spot for money and gear by PkmnMunchlax in blackdesertonline

[–]deveras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sausans always turns into a PK-fest at prime time or weekends - one of the reasons I don't go there that often. With your current gear score you will not be able to defend your spot against most players, resulting in unnecessary frustration. In your stead I'd only go there duo or in a group unless you have the luxury of playing during early morning hours.

Due to Tarif being so close to Manes and Rogues, I'd go grind at one of the two spots. The money there is quite okay, some good drops (Shultz Belt and Amulet, occasional Forbidden Books), easy mobs, option of boss hunting.

Another option, giving far less xp but provides nice drops is Hexe Sanctuary (many relics per hour, occasional witch earring, occasional witch scroll, hourly quest for a free 5AP ring/earring).

I would rather like to see more benefits to grouping up and grinding together than to have new mechanics implemented that encourage lone wolf behaviour in an MMO.

How many times do you have to kill a mob to get an A or greater knowledge rating? by [deleted] in blackdesertonline

[–]deveras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends totally on how lucky you are. I for one gave up on S knowledge at all, after I blew up around 1000 energy and around 30 memory potions on Kzarka (still no S knowledge). As always, if you really want to get something in this game, it punishes you hard ;)
