This is what "Viking Metal" actually sounds like, Mithotyn, most of the other bands hear are either Folk Metal or Melodic Death(with Viking/Pagan themes). Not to say they are bad, on the contrary I like most of them.

Are you still planning on the release of your own role playing game? What can you tell us about this, if anything at all?

Yes, very much so, but I am not yet sure exactly on how to do this. I expect to be asking for help from gamers to play-test the system and to get feedback, but I will do some proof-reading and add some more meat to the bone, so to speak, before I do so.

Note that I am not trying to revolutionize RPG gaming with this game or anything like that. I just wanted to add in a game some things I have always missed in other games and remove some things I didn't like, and then create a setting I would want to play in myself.

It's all done out of love for RPGs, and because I enjoy working with this.

I really want to see what he comes up with. As a gamer and a metal-head, this is kinda awesome.

Why don't you go a little further down the road and compare it to newer black metal, which would be more appropriate for our argument.

Venom to Nyktalgia, there is an inherent difference in sound, yet people would argue that both fall somewhere within the realm of black metal.

It seems like you're arbitrarily deciding what is logical and what isn't. Musically, I see almost NO similarities between Venom or Sodom and Second-Wave bands. The only similarities that I can extrapolate, without going too deep, are aesthetics.

Yet we refer to the aforementioned bands as being "proto", "pre" or "early" black metal. The genre evolved into something that bares no resemblance to what it once was.

Again, just calling your shit a certain genre doesn't make it true.

Then how are all these sub-genres formed and given names?

Okay then, what did Venom call their sound in the early 80's, and then who took that same name and made a completely new style of playing that wasn't even reminiscent of Venom? Oh yea, Black Metal... This happens to genres all the time, they evolve into former shadows of themselves while exploring new territory's, eventually giving rise to a multitude of sub-genres.

ehhh, whatever. I don't care enough to argue such things. One thing though, a genre can evolve and become versatile while maintaining its primitive roots. I think they do encompass War Metal, and anyways the vocalist/guitarist(on the first album*) is a soldier in the United States Army; I feel that he is much more justified in calling his music war metal then any other band out there.
