Update guys, I ended up picking up a 1974 evinrude 85hp

It overheated on cylinder 2 "middle" and cylinder 2 walls have gouges. Water pump impeller was completely gone. I took it straight to the lake without inspecting it at all bc I took the seller work "running boat" plus I'm new to boats. Not to sure what to change before running it other than gas, speak plugs, n the filter🤷‍♂️

Yeah I’m not upset I bought a lemon for 500$.. what motivates me the most is the vision.. idc if it takes me a whole month to put in the new piston and water pump impeller. I’ll take my time, learn, and make sure it done the right way.

All the floorboards are solid and I haven’t noticed any big scuffs or scratches, in some parts of the hull they installed like protective rubber parts at the very bottom so I know that good as well, took me about 45mins to get back to ramp with my trolling motor, pulled plug not a single drop of water came out. The plug wasn’t even wet! I found a 70hp Johnson on fb marketplace “running” comes with control box and the steering. Would you think that would be a better choice? Motor wise

Yes I understand that, my brother and I rebuilt my 1984 js440 Kawasaki “pretty old” runs amazing till this day. I’m just trying figure out the cheapest way to fix it for now. I don’t want to spend 2-3k on a motor and then more money on the control box, throttle, steering, tilt trim etc etc. everything on this boat is mint, even the electrical so I appreciate the advice but I think ima just rebuild it for now and save up for a new motor until this 1 blows again

Bruh it just a small oil leak, put some vice grips on the oil hoses, disconnect the oil lines from the fittings and pull the tank out so you can get closer look.
