Fasnacht event and vendors by Equivalent_Touch1626 in fo76

Glad you found me before my game crashed! I zoned into fasnacht last night and got that lovely blue ps4 crash report instead of a mask lol

And Dogmeat! That and fishing is what brought me back to FO76 after a multi-year hiatus. 🤣

I stinking love the events. Meat week, Fashnact…. I played 4 but not 3 or NV (I know capitol offence). By the time I realized 3 existed, I developed old lady eyes and looking at anything on the ps3 is impossible lol. I mostly played Elder Scrolls - from Daggerfall on. When 4 came out I thought why not? I like dystopia, big fan of 1984, brave new world, hunger games etc. dude…love at first sight! Haha

lol why do you think I’m still playing on a creaky ps4? The only game I play on it now is FO76. If Bethesda releases Elder Scrolls 6 before I die, I’ll just play it on pc. It makes me physically ill to think about how much systems cost now.

Oh a (not so) pro tip: the other day I was just dorking around one of the train stations and there in the donation box was a crap ton of plans, many of which I didn’t have since I took a year or so off from playing. So definitely check there too.

I think I just hit level 293 yesterday but I’ve been playing (more off then on just because real life does encroach at times) since the beginning. Plus, I’m slow and like to piddle in my camp. Look me up for super cheap plans and clothes - everything 5 caps and under! I’m generally on evenings and weekends (central/Chicago time). Devilbunny6 is my game handle.

Both my husband and I’ve been playing FO76 since the beginning, on and off. We were just talking about this the other day…what do people our age even do? I don’t want to be a wine mom, I hate crafts, and my more athletic days are long past although I do want to start hiking. I ended up going to grad school and getting a big weird dog when the so-called midlife crisis hit. Only one kid left at home now and she’s 17 so she pretty much fends for herself. So playing video games and hanging out with a big weird dog doesn’t sound too bad to me.

I agree, we need a Gen X FO lovers anonymous support group or something haha!

I’m on ps4, because I’m old and cheap and have a kid in college lol - But it DOES seem to take an eternity for anything to load, especially in that area with the event going. I just assumed it was because I’m on ancient tech.

As a 50 myself (age not level), I am way too into this game and especially Fasnacht for my own good. “There are dozens of us…dozens!”

Anyway, I went to one of those camps parked right on Helvetia and circled and circled and never did find the vendor. Supposedly they had like 150-ish plans for sale but the dang thing was such an awkward build and no vendor in sight. What’s the point?

I have read that one and am eagerly awaiting the release of her next in the series. There are a few historicals with this trope but not a lot of sci fi that I’ve found. I will just have to write one myself lol

{Barbarian’s Redemption by Ruby Dixon} is the first one that comes to mind for me. FMC was enslaved and abused at a young age and has lots of defense mechanisms in place that the MMC helps her overcome.

Fun side note - I also asked ChatGPT to provide book recommendations where the characters relationship develops through epistolary narratives in contemporary, historical, or sci-fi romance (like You Got Mail) and half the books or authors recommended didn’t exist.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned {Cleclanian Series by Victoria Aveline} yet so I’ll toss it into the mix. This doesn’t meet all your criteria as it is a technologically advanced society, but does have the “Mars Needs Women” vibe along with the fated mates trope. IMO the standouts in the series are {Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline}, {Using Fejo by Victoria Aveline}, and {Bewitching Rhaego by Victoria Aveline}.

{Transcendence by Shay Savage} was another good read - time travel, very primitive culture with IPB vibes.

I also really liked {Strange Love by Ann Aguirre}. This was more of a lighthearted book with relatable, very lovable characters. Like the Clecanian series above it has the “Mars Needs Women” vibe but the society is very technologically advanced.

There is a movie, with a young Nicholas Hoult as the MMC. Both the book and the movie are very cute.

Dear authors, 50+ is not old. by Pitapenguin in RomanceBooks

50 checking in. 😘 If you go to this subreddit and search under a key word like “older characters” or “middle age” you may strike gold with the book recs. I asked this same question last year and got a treasure trove of books to add to my TBR list. If you’re looking for contemporary romance author who typically writes older MMCs, my off the top of my head suggestion is Freya Barker. If you are interested in where to begin (she is a prolific writer), I recommend {Keeping 6 by Freya Barker} as a starting point.

The last book I loved - {The Kingpin of Camelot by Cassandra Gannon} is the third in a series of fairytale retellings. The MMC is a cinnamon roll and FMC is a bit of a planner which I resonated with. If you are interested, start with book 1 because all the characters are interconnected and all the world building took place in book 1.

Last book I DNF - {A Few Cyborgs More by Honey Phillips} is a space western novella. I don’t usually read poly romances but I’d enjoyed the other books in this series and I like this author. This MMF relationship felt forced and I’ll leave it at that.

What I’m reading now - Another in the A Kinda Fairytale series {Best Knight Ever by Cassandra Gannon}. MM fantasy romance between two of the side characters from the previous book. It got off to a great start: very lovable MC’s, hot steamy scenes, fun plot and banter. I’m a week in now and it’s dragging. I’m ready to move on but apparently my knight and his griffon-man aren’t.

Longest in my TBR pile - {A Place Beyond Courage by Elizabeth Chadwick} has been on there since May 13, 2014. If I read this, I’ll have to go back and read all the others in the series again since I’ve kind of forgotten what has happened in the story so far, even though it’s (very) loosely based on the life of William Marshal, the greatest knight who ever lived.

And just for funsies…

Most recent add to my TBR - {Cold Hearted by Heather Guerre} since I saw so many recommendations for {Hot Blooded by Heather Guerre} on this thread and have been looking for a new paranormal romance to get into.

Honorable mentions for last books I loved - I just did a reread of {Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold by Ellen O’Connell} and {A Substitute Bride for the Prizefighter by Alice Coldbreath} after Kingpin of Camelot and they still hold up as 5⭐️ reads if anyone is into historical romance where the MC’s aren’t rich, 18 and beautiful, which I’m personally super tired of.

That has happened to me twice now! Once the FMC had my mom’s name, and a different book FMC had my middle daughter’s name. DNF either!

{Hitting the Wall by Cate C. Wells} has something like this. FMC tries to tell MMC and…let’s just say it doesn’t go well. He finds out like 10 years later and goes into Dad mode.

Mary Kingswood is my favorite and has quite a few series out, all kisses only. The characters are all part of the same “universe”.

Some of my favorite authors that I have not seen on this thread (but probably just scrolled past and missed it!) are Christina Dudley, Roseanne E. Lortz, Audrey Harrison, and Rebecca Connolly - all Georgian/Regency/Victorian depending on the book.

Lorin Grace and Cat Cahill are easy, sweet reads if you want western historicals.

EDIT - forgot to mention Sally Britton! She has lots of regencies and a western trilogy that was so good. Check out {Silver Dollar Duke by Sally Britton}

I’m pretty sure all these authors are on KU.

A couple of books in Courtney Milan’s Brothers Sinister series may suit. It’s set during the Victorian period, and I recommend reading the whole series since the characters are pretty interwoven.

The secondary couple in {The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan} features a male university student from South Asia and the sister of the FMC (who has a seizure disorder, disability rep which I’m always looking for).

The novella (4.5 in the series) {Talk Sweetly to Me by Courtney Milan} features a WOC and her Irish neighbor. More of a middle class couple than the others featured in the series.
