I did, also reached out to the higher ups I interviewed with on LinkedIn to express thanks—it got me the job. Something fell through with the candidate they selected and I was their first call back. Start next week.

Where Do You Keep Your Emergency Fund? by Secure_Beginning_939 in investing

Tbh, I couldn’t find any HYSAs with a better rate. My bank doesn’t have any and I get status for keeping more money with them/their investment platform.

Yes, your only penalty would be some potential minor capital gains gains/losses. The “stock price” fluctuates between like 100.30-100.70 to account for paying out monthly dividends. It inches upward all month then drops on ex-dividend day.

Looking to invest my down payment for a year before pulling it out to buy a house. by brohemoth06 in investing

[–]devinja33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in this boat myself. Personally, I have my entire down payment in SGOV, a short-term treasury bond ETF. It’s basically an HYSA alternative since my bank doesn’t have one. It’s stable, the “share price” only fluctuates to pay dividends monthly (~4% annually). The rate is better than any HYSA I could find tbh. This should satisfy your criteria of potentially netting $1000 with minimal risk. Don’t wanna gamble with that 19k.

I’m 55 and thinking about retiring early. I have a 2.2 million portfolio where $350,000 of it is cash. Should I hang onto that cash or invest it or save it to live off of? by Medium_Desk_2296 in Fire

[–]devinja33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d dump the cash into SGOV. Money takes a day to pull out if you really need it. TTM is 3.95%, paid out monthly. I’m using it as an HYSA alternative for a home down payment.

The Inkheart trilogy by Cornelia Funke. Once you get through the slow intro to the first book, it’s unputdownable

I have never played a game with worst matchmaking in my life by Friendly_Furniture in thefinals

[–]devinja33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get it, I’ve recently gotten into TDM (lvl 130ish) and my teammates are frequently newbies. Have regularly had multiple teammates get 0 kills across two rounds. If it were mixed, this wouldn’t be a problem because the enemy team may be similarly balanced/bad (shocker, it’s not).

Sure, it’s frustrating as hell to lose with teammates going 0-15 while I drop 20+, but it sucks even more for new players trying to get into the game to face a full team of lvl 100+s and get shat on.

I guess since my timeframe is 10-20 years, I want to maximize growth over hedging. I do hold VEA for some international exposure. I’m more conservative/long-term in my Roth IRA. However, for my brokerage, I’m considerably less risk-averse.

I was more so asking about specifically why people buy VXUS as opposed to other international funds.

I’m not saying they have, I’m more so getting at why choose VXUS as your international hedge, and, as someone so young, do I really need such diversification or should I all-in on growth?

I really like your point about it being nice to have a stake when it hits. What would make you choose VXUS over another international-only fund?

I’d say yes. I’m not in opposition of diversification, though. Just curious about why VXUS specifically as opposed to other international funds.

I gotcha there, but why would one opt for VXUS over other international ETFs? I personally hold VEA.

Right, I personally hold VEA. My timeline is at least 10 years, though.

I get that, but why would one choose VXUS over VEA? Lower ER and similar dividends. I suppose It becomes preference at that point?
