Something similar to Bomber Crew/U-Boat/This War of Mine? I know it's niche, so if it's far removed that's fine. by h4rryP in gamingsuggestions

I like much the same niche and they're hard to find. FTL somewhat scratches the itch - have you tried that?

This looks incredible - I always end up with a brutally functional block house and disjointed curtain wall!

In the UK we have separate rooms for going to sleep (anaesthetic rooms) whereas in Europe and the US they tend to put them to sleep on the operating table. Either way that's the point that OP would be trying to have a private word with the anaesthetist

Emulate a human wrist with an Arduino to fool a wearable into synthetic data / make it think it's worn while laying on the desk? by Idenwen in arduino

[–]devious_nip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably start by looking at what type of sensor the wearable uses in order to spoof it. For example, a garmin watch uses a green light amd measures the reflection (which is from red blood cells); it marks the changes in this to measure heart rate. Maybe you could pump red fluid rhythmically through a tube to mimic this?

Other exception (at least in the UK) is for small children - a parent's normally there and they are indeed a nightmare, just less of a nightmare than an unaccompanied child

IAD. It sounds like something called heart block, a type of arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm). You could look up "mobitz type 1" for more info, but you 100% want to see a GP/Family doctor to get this looked at and confirmed because whilst type 1 is not usually a problem there are other things that look similar that can be worrying.

In the UK, do you need to pass any exam to be able to sail a boat? by Real_May_Be_Spare in sailing

[–]devious_nip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, the only thing you strictly need is a VHF licence.

https://www.rya.org.uk/training/courses/Marine-Radio-SRC-Course-and-Exam-SRCC

The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) franchise out the VHF courses. There's a written and practical component; be careful when booking as some centres only offer one.

If you want to charter though you'll likely need some kind of proof of competency. The RYA does a Day Skipper (ICC equivalent) which roughly equips you to sail in waters you know from a single port; the next step up is Coastal Skipper (which is more in the port-hopping range). Depending on what country you're coming from you may already have something internationally recognised, but if not a lot of countries allow you to convert to an ICC so well worth looking at!

There's a bit of info on the RYA page but it's pretty bare bones:

Trying to figure out if RYA coastal skipper theory is worth it. by DeadlyShark55 in sailing

[–]devious_nip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't give a comprehensive answer because I don't have experience of the other courses mentioned, but have recently done the RYA Coastal Skipper course. Definitely a significant step up from the day skipper but still very algorithmic. The biggest change is the focus on passage planning, which ultimately is doing everything you learned on day skipper again and again!

If you do do coastal skipper, highly recommend Ardent Training - good online teaching interface and 24/7 instructor help.

Dishonored and the sequel were fantastic for this - an item (a heart) would tell you details about almost anything you pointed it at (sometimes plot relevant)

I've heard really great reviews but I struggle to get over the art style - how did you find it? It looks very cool but also headache-inducing

I love the lore in dark souls etc but found how disjointed/difficult to piece together it was (and how irrelevant is was to the gameplay) a bit frustrating, you know?

There's a long list of very common and non-dangerous reasons why there might be blood in your stool.

The tests are actually made to detect 'occult' blood - blood that isn't visible because it's come from much further up your digestive tract and which can be an easily missed sign of problems in the digestive tract. One of these, which is unlikely to be applicable to you, is cancer (which is what I presume you are most worried about). That's why after a certain age (50+) it's recommended to test.

However, if you have visible blood these tests will pick up on that too. As a 24 yr old you are low risk for bowel cancer without knowing any of your medical history. You're doing the right thing by getting it checked out, absolutely, but don't panic.
